i turned on my comp and the psu sparked and smoke came out , why would it just short out? it worked before...i am pretty sure it fried the cpu...any clues?
 
probably just a bad capacitor, i've seen many of them just pop like that before. there's a chance your cpu is okay
 
I suppose there could be many reasons.

Power supplies are probably the most common cause of system problems and component failures.

I hope your parts aren't toast... good luck!

what power supply was it?
also there is a similar post like this over at anands...are you from anands? :p
 
i put a new one in, 350 antec, boots up fine, starts beeping like an alarm after it says veryfying dmi pools..the beep goes high/low repeating. it reads FF and does not do anything after this point...oh yea it reads 67c idle in bios, isnt that hella hot?

yea, thats very hot. Isn't the threshhold for a P4 like 70 or 72 or something?
