Hi,

Today my psu died. RIP. Tried to turn on the pc and got a plume of smoke. Was a Corsair AX1200. 11 days past warranty. So need a replacement and wonder whats a good one to get?

Thanks for the tip. Thinking of getting a new one warranty or not. Afraid a refurb would be a ticking time bomb. Thanks.

Not much can go wrong on a PSU, refurb units done right can last as long as an original PSU potentially. I've repaired dozens of PSUs over the years and most went on to serve the life of the machine they were used in. The few that failed usually had something to do with the environment they were in

Are you gonna toss the smoked unit?
 
Looks like Corsair approved the RMA so not sure what to do. Got the itch to purchase the Seasonic Titanium Ultra 1KW Prime. Might put the refurb they send me in another machine or build a new one.

Good to hear. I'd be curious how the waranty will work for that refurb unit.

If its for another 5-10 years I'd just say hang on to it. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't expect a generally high quality PSU such as that to be the kind to fail and take down other components in your system.

Though if you have the itch to buy, those Seasonic units are great too of course.

Who knows they may send you a refurb AXi unit if they don't have old stock of the AX units.
 
Just asked for cross ship option. Got that itch bad though. For now using my old PC Power and Cooling 1200 in there and its a speghetti linguini mess of wires in there. Work fine after ten years that one. Very loud and noisy PSU.

Already have an Axi though.
 
I think you've answered your own question then :)

I'd say get two of these then. Seasonic 600 watt fanless titanium. For something different. Or actually look into redundant PSUs for fun
