Hello,

I've been reading the forums here for ages, done my own calculations etc and am still a little bit unsure about which PSU I should get for my new system. I'd like to pick up a Corsair PSU, I've even used their calculator online and it suggested the Corsair HX520 520HX but I just wanted to make certain. Please see my system specs below:


1x EVGA 8800GT Akimbo Sc 720MHZ 512MB 2.0GHZ
8gigs Corsair XMS2 DHX TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX DDR2-800
1x Western Digital 150GB SATA2 RAPTOR
1x Western Digital 500GB SATA2 7200RPM
Q6600 on EVGA Nforce 750I SLI FTW MOBO
Zalman CNPS9700NT Copper CPU Heatsink 110MM Fan

+Various other case fans of course etc etc

I have a 600w ULTRA Xfinity in my old P4 3.0 Asus P5ND2SLI system (Non modular psu) that seems fine now, It is not even a year old but unless I can be certain this will work REALLY well I'll just spend the cash to get new one.

The PSU I have in mind is Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply. I can pick it up for $85.00 from NCIX here in Canada.

Do I need to go for more? Can I try and find a lower wattage PSU for less? (550 or 600 watt corsair?)

As long as you're not planning on doing SLI it looks good. If you don't really need the modularity of the Corsair HX series though the TX you have in mind wouldn't be a bad alternative.
 
Thanks, I wouldn't mind the option to go SLI.. if it meant spending a bit more cash maybe I should go with something else for the hell of it. Which Corsair (or other) PSU would you suggest going with in that case?
 
Researching a bit more, would this actually be good for that system above + sli (I just want room for some growth if need be and to allow for any decay)

I gather this has three rails and thus it can utilize a lower wattage?
 
Having multiple rails does not mean lower or higher wattage. It's somewhat separate.

Oh and that Corsair PSU is actually a single rail design. Corsair had a misprint in the original label and by the time it was noticed, it was too costly to go back and fix the mistake. Anyway, that Corsair 520HX should be enough.
