Hi guys, Im in th eplanning stages of getting a new system and, being out of touch with IT in general, am getting advice component by component!

Am I right in thinking the following system will need a 1000w PSU? Which should I get?

2x WD raptor 150's
8-10x (the new) seagate 750/1tb HD's (with raid card)
*best* motherboard + *vgood* dual/quad intel CPU
2-4GB ram
1x gtf or 2 x gts gfx cards (undecided)
And Im currently thinking the coolermaster stacker 832 is the way to go for all of that

Thanks

Well, the real decision maker in that is what video cards you will be getting.

ah - in that case this might have to wait. I thought the vast number of hd's would dictate the need rather than a decision between gfx cards.
I'm getting the DELL3007 (aside form the case, pretty much the only thing I have decided on!) so need at least one top end card....on the other hand Im not an avid gamer so prob wont need sli. So I guess I should be getting advice on the right cpu first, then gfx card, then ramn, raid card, and finally ask this question!

Well gaming on that 30" with it's native resoloution at max settings will need SLI 8800GTX for running future games at decent FPS.

12 Hard Drives wont conusme more the 150-200w but if you are planning on getting a Quad and overclocking it and your GFX cards then you could be looking for a 800w+ PSU.

I would suggest the psu i have had now for a month or two. The Silverstone olympia op1000 1kw psu. It has 80 amps on a single +12v rail and it even out performs the top of the line pc power and cooling offering ( the 1kw turbo cool) which incedently is $200.00/£100.00 more expensive. Bigger is better with psu's as your system will only draw as much current as is needed. Max.

Your sig is too long. ;)

Really?? There's peeps here with longer sigs than mine buddy.

thanks guys - silverstone doesnt seem to be about much in the UK. I've traditionally seen antec as the *quality* psu maker has that changed?

So, on the assumption that I am looking at 850w+, and will probably need lots of power connectors, is there a particular (more widely available in UK) model I should look at?

I know Enhance is pretty popular in the EU. I haven't kept up with what they have though at there are better PSUs out in the market.

thanks - the toughpower is my choice for now. Im going to wait till the 22nd before thinking about things further after having read about price cuts - although I doubt the UK will reflect them in the online shops :-P

I was thinking around £250 for the Q6600 after the price drops.

holy cow do they really rip you off that badly over there? its going to be $260?
