Everything is ready to start the build, oh' atleast you thought. Dont you hate it when you are missing that Y connector, the male / female adapter, that fan molex ... you get the point

So it appears I am geting an Ultra - d, Enermax Liberty [ pretty sure ], and an opteron 165 ... can someone please tell me what psu accessories I should get BEFOREHAND so I am not stuck in the wind

By the way, I heard that with the Dfi Ultra - d, all fans should be powered from the Psu

yeah, with the ultra-d i had a neopower 480w. i didnt know but that PSU doesnt come with a floppy pin. you need one of those for the mobo. the ultra-d requires

1 native 24-pin PSU
1 p4 12v thingy RIGHT next to the main power connecter
1 molex
1 FDD power connectore thing (which means you need 2 total if you plan to power a FDD)

those are the BARE essentials for the MOBO ALONE. then you need all sorts of molexes for the dvd roms, hdds etc.

EDIT: I ended up buying this molex to 2 fdd connector power thing for the neopower and the lanparty mobo.

If you are getting a DFI N4, forget the Ultra & get the Enermax.

You need a "Y" adaptor (splitter) for the FDD.

No, you should still use the PSU to power your fans. What I did was just connect all the fans up to my HDD cooler/fan controler. Got it for like $15 at SVC. I have four 3pin case fans hooked up to it, and my two panaflo's connected to a molex adapter.

And if you're buying a panaflo fan, some of them don't come with connectors, just bare wire. You'll have to buy your own "panaflo fan tails" or splice the wire into an extra molex connector.

With the Enermax Liberty, you will NOT need a "Y" for the FDD connectors- the PSU has 2 of them. I'm running that combo, and it works perfectly. The thing is also dead silent.
 
You won't need an extra floppy power cable because the Liberty comes with two.

There's only one fan connector, and I'd use that for the rear case fan, but I don't think you need to buy anything additional to adapt your fans for two reasons:

1. If you use a fan controller you plug the fans into the controller.

2. You can plug the fans into the motherboard.

3. 3-pin fans typically come with a 3 to 4 pin adapter if you need to plug the fans directly into the power supply.

To muddy the waters a bit, as Dave likes to say, I must tell you that I'm personally up to having built two DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR machines. One for a friend with a pair of eVGA 7800GTX cards in it. Neither one of these do I have the extra drive Molex connectors hooked up to the boards. I just have a 24-pin and 2x2 hooked up to the board. No problems at all, even during four hour long sessions of Call of Duty 2. ;)

I also have the front case fan hooked up to the motherboard header. Not directly to the PSU.

You have to realize that DFI Street makes the recommendations they make because they want to eliminate three to four additional posts in a thread by asking the same questions over and over again:

1. Do you have all of the power connectors hooked up? It's something you can do in the troubleshooting process without buying anything additional. It eliminates the possibility that board isn't getting enough power.

2. Do you have any fans plugged into the motherboard? It eliminates the possibility that the fans are pulling too much power or perhaps have a short.

It goes along the same line of thinking as troubleshooting a no power, no post or no boot and you've got four sticks of RAM, a TV tuner card, a wireless NIC all shoved in your machine while you're troubleshooting. You don't troubleshoot a PC with a bunch of PCI cards and four sticks of RAM in it!

So remember: DFI makes the board. It's got fan headers on it for a reason. And the additional power connectors are NOT required. DFI Street is there to help people, so if they tell you to do something prior to asking for help, do it or you'll look the fool. ;)
