I have seen a lot of negative articles/posts about the square button on the Sony PSP. I came across the following article that says Sony fixed the problem. I did preoeder my PSP a while ago and I figured that I'd risk the chance of getting one with a bad button. This makes me extremely excited that Sony is already improving what will surely be a kick ass product.

thats great but I still dont know if I want to get a PSP.

I was all over the idea at first of getting one but now I need a new set of golf clubs and pay for my mountain climbing trip.

I want a PSP so badley, but once you add in the cost for a 1gb memory stick (maybee 2) and a couple of games it just becomes extremely exspensive. Glad to hear they are resolving problems already. Props to sony for fixing their wrongs but this error should have been fixed even befor it went retail.
 
It's funny that they decided to fix it, especially after one of the guys at Sony went on the record saying that the PSP was one of the most beautiful things in the world, and that they would never tinker with it because it was perfect the way it is. Despite the fact that it was obvious that the square button was misplaced and jammed up easy.

All children are perfect in their parents eyes...that is why we have a bunch of kids who can't read, write, or do basic alegbra and then expect a $100k/year starting salary out of highschool. I can read and do advanced mathemtaics but still can't do the writing thing well but working on it dammit!

The only "problem" fixed is the square button getting stuck, which happened on 0.6% of all PSPs, and was due to excess plastic molding.

The sensor hasn't been moved, because it actually detects button presses despite being off-center.

And I'm willing to bet it happened on a lot more than 0.6% of them.. If only 0.6% of them suffered from this defect, why did some arrogant Sony rep come out and tell everyone that was how it was made and they weren't going to change it when confronted with the problem? Sounded to me like he didn't care about the problem at all. Maybe they wised up and decided to address the problem, but it was still pretty stupid of him to say that crap.
 
1st Rev hardware gremlins. Always happens. Give it a couple of revs and all the bugs/glitches will be worked out and tweaked.
 
I have a PSP and while I have no issues with the square button sticking, the offset switch contacts give it a poor feel in relation to the others. It doesn't have much snap to it, is considerably softer, and the offset makes it not want to travel straight up and down. Which is what I'm sure led to the sticking issues. If they would've had the button cluster rotated 45º none of this would be an issue as there would be plenty of clearance from the LCD. While the same situation exists on the d-pad, it isn't a problem since it is connected as all one piece, but I would be willing to bet that the rubber contact spring on the right d-pad direction and particularly the sqaure button wear out much faster than the others due to the offset.

However, it is really a minor issue and I wouldn't use it as an excuse to not get a PSP if you are itnerested. It is a solid performing unit and I haven't even turned on my DS in the last couple months. Once you see the screen in action first hand you will want one.
 
i can't wait to get mine, i finished paying off my pre-order a few days ago. i've got untold legends and mercury on pre-order, i'm gonna get untold right away and i'm going to try out mercury before i buy it. i was glad to hear that they are fixing some problems, but i hope they leave the disc shooting feature in, that's a pretty nice thing to have i think. we just started getting in some PSP accessory's last week, so i'm anxious to get them all in and see which ones are the best value.
 
i cant wait for gt 4 mobile to come out....i really want that game for my psp (when it arrives)

The "arrogant Sony rep" was Ken Kutaragi, the man who designed the PlayStation, PS2, and possibly PSP. What he was commenting on was the location of the square button's push sensor, and not the square button getting stuck. You're confusing two separate issues here. The location of the square button's sensor is independent of the problem regarding excess plastic molding on 0.6% of the PSP square buttons.

lol shit when ever i get into a fight...my parents dont side with me...they go against me and said with the person i was fighting, oh i did algebra 2 in 7th....we did a lil trig this year(8th)
