Hey everyone, I just got a psone screen and was about to do the vga mod but realized i havent tested to make sure it works now before i mod it so i need a power adapter. Does anyone know if the power connector uses the same thing as the psp? If not i am just going to do a direct solder of this multi power thing i got laying around

Don't know for sure, but I'd guess it'll be different. Just make sure you get the polarity and voltage right on the multi power thing, or *pop*.

No, it does not use the same adapter as the PSP.
Can't remember the numbers exactly but I had checked it out before and the wattage is different.

PSOne screen uses 7.5Volts, the PSP adapter puts out around 5 Volts, and that is too low to power the screen.

I thought the screen used 12v?

If it uses 5, 7, or 12 (or something very near) volts, then just power it off a spare molex connector from the psu...

It does not use any of those voltages, unless you replace the internal regulators. It takes between 7.2 and 9.0 Volts, without modification.

It runs off 7.5v so the most convenient way to do that right now is to get the car adapter (the official sony one) because the 12v to 7.5v is done in-line rather than at the connector so it can be spliced into a molex.

just solder wires to the points inside the unit and use the PSUs 7 volts to do it...

No, do NOT use the *FAN ONLY* 5v to 12v line trick for anything but fans. Because the display will be connected to a video card that will output voltages, the common (0V) HAS to be the same for the case and the display.

Bad bad things will happen if you connect the display between 5v and 12v leads.

The car adapter thing is what I did for a friend. (thats why I thought it was 12v) It works quite well... Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get my hands on a screen for myself yet :(
