Hey everyone,
I just got a PS3 today, and I love it. I've been gaming, and watching movies all day. I had heard of people installing alternate OS's, but I never thought I actually would want to since I already dual boot on my main box. Do any of you have other OS's installed, if so, what do you do on them? At first I assumed that alot of people loaded up new OS's for folding, but I see now that folding comes with the GameOS.

So what do you all do with your other OS's?

BTW, I searched, and didnt find anything too helpful. Sorry if I missed something easy to find.

I haven't installed any type of linux on it, as my htpc does that job already and does it a lot better than the ps3 can. I basically just use it to play Blu-Ray discs and to play my PS2 and PS3 games.

Folding, stream movies and music from my tversity media server.

+1 I stream movies from my server to my 3x playstation 3's...and fold when I am not

I also have installed linux, but it doesn't do anything worth while...and is far more work then me just walking over to my computer and doing whatever I need to.

I haven't installed any "other" OS's on my PS3, but I do stream media to it from my media server (TVersity) along with plenty of downloadable media directly on the PS3... and Blu-ray and games.

+2. Very handy, and it scales the videos pretty well. I also stream music from internet radio stations which is nice since there is no randomize feature on the PS3 for music.

You could unplug it and bring it to bed with you. Make sure the PS3 gets the right side it likes the right side.

How do you do this? I tried at one point but could never get it to work.

Yea, I always thought it was a kind of dumb idea to install Linux onto a PS3 when it is much easier to just install it to your PC. Use the right tools for the job. Only thing I have used my PS3 for besides movies and games is to watch some youtube videos but even that is a PITA on the PS3 because it asks you if you want to load a plugin every time you go to watch a video.

Do you guys have any good guides for setting up your computer with TVersity and the PS3?

Stream movies, and music. Watch bluray movies, still play a lot of PS2 games on it. And lately, using it with my PSP a lot. A recent firmware update made the PSP a handy-dandy remote.

I havent install linux on it, see no need for it, yet.

Looks like I started a decent thread.

I suppose I was just intrigued by the system that Sony put out. I need to looking into this TVersity

No enough ram for Linux to run well. I reverted to the stock OS and I fold when I'm not watching Blu-Ray movies.
