In terms of your specific PC.

  • It's significantly faster hardware, which means smoother frame rates and better looking visuals
  • Better control system with KB/M and support for lots of controllers
  • Supports all the same kind of configs as PS3 does in terms of being usable on a TV in living room for casual gaming etc, if you care to set it up that way.
  • PC has Cheaper games.

The only thing the PS3 has going for it is a few exclusive titles, the initial price of the hardware is cheap but over the long term this is mitigated by the higher price of games.
 
Ps3 has a texture fill rate of 4 billion per second.
Gtx 580 sli has a fill rate of 98.8 billion per second.

However that pc costs 1700ish, you have to decide if 2560x1600 with 4x antialiasing and max details is worth it... To each his own.

But the mustang vs porsche 911 was a bad example, more like bicycle vs 911... Both will get u there, just how fast is the question

PS3: Can't be upgraded when newer technology comes out. (I used to play console, then I realized I could just play on the PC and plug in a console controller to control with)

PC: Upgradable from anything to everything. Hell, you can do anything from air to chemical cooling, one monitor to X monitors.
New game came out, requires faster processor/ram? No problem, buy new processor/ram, install, voila, good to go.
In terms of noise, there are so many ways to dampen/change out fans/cooling that noise isn't that much of a big deal.
 
PS3: nearing the end of it's life cycle.

PC: Way more powerful. Useful for things other than gaming, Highly upgradeable. Cheaper games way more often!!!

I use the ps3 for ps3 exclusives and jrpgs only on Ps3 and released in japan
and I use pc for every other game
 
Here is another benefit to the PS3: you don't have to troubleshoot problems as to why something wont work on your hardware.

The PS3 was on par for a couple years, but anything but playing anything but sports games is completely unacceptable on it now.
 
The only console I have owned since the Sega Genesis is the Nintendo Wii. It is great fun when the family comes to visit. For serious gaming, the PC is the only choice I will consider!
 
I'm surprised no one has ever brought this point up. But i find that if I want to play games with my friends it really comes down to that flowchart posted earlier in the thread.

PC: Good if you have more internet friends than real life friends .. that play video games online.
PS3/XBLX: Good if you want to play against your real life friends online more so than your internet friends.

Most of my non-computer geek friends, which is the majority, dont have the time/.energy/common technical sense to bother with a PC for gaming. So if I want to enjoy gaming with them, I have to use a console.

I as any self respectcing [H]'er rather play on the PC unless its a fighting/sports/driving game... then definitely on the console.

To sum it up.. that flowchart is WIN.

Agreed. So many flaws in such little logic. Like how those "20 year experienced engineer" and "best IT People" in the world did their top-notch no screw-ups jobs of overclocking the xbox 360 and setting it at just the right speed to ensure it would have a long-lifespan with no overheating problems (rolls eyes).

Not to mention, "its a billions dollars companies with millions of users!!". I mean, that's a valid point too since theres only half a "millons" pc users now adays :eek:. No way are there a billion or so PC users.;)

Sony and Microsoft have competition with huge R&D budgets? Right! That's why MS developed its own video game, processor, hard drive and a custom CPU to boot for the xbox 360. They didn't just use an IBM PowerPC, an ati graphics card and generic hard drives. No no, they R&D'd SSDs :D. All by themselves b/c the ywere concerned about consoles graphical powress. Not to mention how much R&D has advanced the strength of xbox 360 graphics over the last 8 years. These new xbox 360s totally let you up the resolution to 1920x1200x3 and apply 8xAA and 16xAF which adjustable detail settings all the way up (/sarcasim)
 
Obviously this is a pretty terrible thread that we all know the answer to, but I just thought I'd throw out one other idea that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Modding.

Take Oblivion, for example. People raved about it but looking back, it actually kind of sucked. Now when you mod it, it becomes a completely different game. You get rid of terrible mob level system, get much better mechanics for things like sword fighting and archery, get more balanced drops/money, new items, harder difficulty and new story lines. Plus the game is gorgeous instead of a 5 year old mess.

The same goes for GTA4, Fable, Civilization, Fallout, Crysis, NBA2k11, Mass Effect and just about any other game you can think of. Some improve the core gameplay, some turn it into a completely different game.

Keep in mind some of the biggest games of all time like CS and DotA were just mods. You can't get that on console.
 
who cares about mods? There are at least 5 AAA games coming out every year (for example, this year we have gear of war 3, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3), who would brother with mods? Not to mention some mods takes a whole week to install.

By this time next year, there will be another 5 triple A titles.

The only proof I've ever required was playing COD on a PC at a flawless and breathtaking framerate, then playing COD on a PS3 at Best Buy in an eye-rending 20-something frames per second with an obvious lack of anti-aliasing. If you can find a REAL comparison between games that both systems can play, you'll immediately see that PC > PS3. However, PC $> PS3 also.... you get what you pay for. Why buy a Yugo if you can afford a Maserati? If you can't afford the Maserati, there's no point in comparing it to the Yugo you're going to end up buying regardless of performance.
