PS3 vs Computer Gaming

Interestingly enough, I enjoy my Wii much more than the PS3 and nearly as much as my PC.

When the Wii specs were released, I thought it was going to be the crappiest next get system... Just goes to show you that Gameplay > Graphics.

This is why WoW is so popular. The graphics are complete sh!t, but the gameplay for an mmo is almost unbeatable.

I just played through Resistance 2 in my PS3. This game has arguably the best graphics in any PS3 game, certainly in the top ten... and it looks like utter crap compared to any recent game that I've played on my PC. Draw distance and world size is confined, everything is pixelated and aliasing is horrible. In additon, the gameplay and mechanics the same tired, repeticious run and gun that's been around since Quake. I know this is just one game, but I've seen the same graphical limitations and played out gameplay on all games I've played on PS3 (and Xbox 360, for that matter). I just can't play many console games anymore, guess I'm spoiled. Only exceptions have been games that have original, console-only content or gameplay (Fable II, Condemned 2, MG4)

What happened to the amazing things we were supposed to see with the Cell processor? I think we've reached a point where the division between graphics and computational performance between PC and console is about equal with the difference between PS2/Xbox with PCs at the end of that gen's life. Time for new consoles?

Yeah, it's just like the PS2 Emotion Engine, although the PS2 is far from dead, they only figured out how to saturate the technology upon the products EOL (End Of Life). At that rate we'll start seeing some excellent PS3 games around 2013. hehehehe.... J/K fanbois...

I've got a PS3, Xbox 360 and PC capable of gaming well. Consoles are great, because I don't have to OC them or mess with bios settings or tweak them to get the most out of them. The Console developers have already tweaked the software for the consoles (if they developed properly that is.) But for the PC there is the beauty of being able to play the same resource hog of a game on faster and better hardware to get a better gaming experience. Ever load up doom3 on a newer system, it kicks ass on newer hardware? Whereas, the PS3 will be held back by it's hardware and the developer's programming skills.

Let's not forget laptops either, I love being able to play a game on a long flight or half way around the world, without lugging my console and controllers around.

Ok, going to have to call BS on this one good Sir. You cannot build a pc that can out do a PS3 for $300.

Show me a PC with optical output, hdmi output, blu ray drive, 80gb hard drive, etc. for "$300" that will out do a ps3 in gaming.

Don't forget you are going to need to buy at least windows xp, motherboard, a decent dual core processor most likely, case, power supply, good ram...and probably some descent fans to keep your system as quiet as a ps3...oh and I doubt it will be quiet as a ps3.

I think windows xp and a blu ray drive will run you about $200, good luck with the other $100, lol.

And the price of games is absolutely negligible. Most games for the ps3 you can find on craigslist for a fraction of the cost. And when you are done with the game you just sell them. Final cost of games for me usually is $0 to $5 after I sell them back. And believe me, it's actually easier and faster to sell ps3 games on craigslist because people actually have to buy ps3 games. Where as if you try to sell a pc game, you probably won't be able to because all the hacks are downloading them, lol.

You're absolutely right. Buy a PS3 and go play your shitty games on it. We don't want or need you here.

Seriously, theres going to be a flame war if this thread isn't closed. Its already getting worse.

I vote for closing this. Anyone else?

PC will always be better. Why don't you guys just understand that. The ps3 and xbox are out dated. You may be able to play the games but you won't get what the whole game has to offer in graphics and everything. Your missing out basically. Online modes are always better on the pc also. Consoles only have a fraction of what the pc can do online. Console games don't last either.in terms of replay value. Everyone on the pc is still playing games back to the 90s on new hardware and they look better. Console is just limiting. I have a wii but thats just when people come over. The real gaming takes place on the pc though ;). Almost everyone here is running a pc to get on these forums so why not spend the extra 200 bux and just upgrade it. Any computer from the past few years would be able to run practically almost any game pretty good.

You need glasses or a new TV.

Some examples please? It would be unfortunate if you only posted to hurl insults, seeing as this is your only "contribution" to this thread.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know a single thing I was talking about and simply had to let go of some external stress by quoting random posts you have no opinion on and threw a few jabs before running away into a crowd.

I can't afford to own a PS3/Xbox. I am going to have a badass computer no matter what, just because I use a computer for a lot of different things. I might as well game on it. That, and in my opinion, most of the best games are PC games (Civ series, Total war series, half life, you name it). And if they aren't PC-only, then they certainly are still offered on the PC (like MassEffect, which I thought was better on the PC anyway). Not to mention not having ridiculous load times on a PC, and having content delivery like steam....

And nothing beats the mouse/keyboard interface.

A few months ago I would have told you PC gaming.

But now that I use PC more for work, and PS3 is gaming, Im more relaxed playing on my PS3, no matter how underpowered it is.

PS3 is rubbish. I don't really console game but I develop for both and sony screwed the pooch (and developers) by not putting more video memory in. The thing is just a nightmare to develop for. PCs on the other hand, are a breeze.

If any console is close in terms of PC-comparable performance it's the 360 since it walks a decent line in terms of texture capability and the programmers don't have to deal with Sony's multi-cored monstrosity. PS3 won't have nearly the life of the PS2 simply because developers will drop it asap.

YES! The only thing that Xbox/PS3 have is Rock Band.

man, I hate to say it, but everything that could be said in this thread about these subjects has been said to death. It's starting to turn into a flame war.

Honestly, consoles are fun, but in the end the PC/Mac is capable of more productivity, which imo, is what most of the users on this thread use their machines for.

Not saying the consoles are bad or anything, but I am saying that this thread has turned bad!

+1 to ending this thread!
