And how long will it be until CPUs start including a stream processing core(s) on die?

Add to the above the possibility that cell processors may, in the next 5 years, be ADDED to the home computer with its CPU with its 64 cores.:eek: Is it unreasonable to conceive of an updated cell processor on a card? Remember --those of you with a few gray hairs -- the 8087 socket on the original PCs...

I agree that 5 years is a long time horizon for making predictions about what we will have in our boxen. I just know that it will wonderful, and will make what we have now look like (dare I say) relics of the past?

For now, I'm glad my son has a PS3 folding for the [H]orde. I'm considering getting one for folding and Blue Ray (and games...). And, I'm building a C2D boxen.

If it folds, it's good.



 
Just thought I would throw this out saw it on DL.TV http://www.dl.tv where they talk about running Folding@Home on the PS3. Was a pretty decent article in Episode 151. The actual part of the show if you dont feel like watching the whole thing start around 15:30 into the show. Its hosted by Patrick Norton and Robert Herrin from The Screen Savers show that was on ZDTV / TechTV / G4TV.

Yeah I've been wondering how heat would affect these things (full load 24/7).
 
I looked at the Game Crazy ad that came in the mail today.....gazing glassy-eyed at the ps3 for $599 :p There's an aftermarket cooling / docking station for the ps3 for $29.99. Kind of similar to a laptop cooler. Might keep the unit a bit cooler....can't hurt to try it for $30. I know I'm not the only one here who has blown more than that on a HSF that sucked.
