PS3 or no!?

Gotta love the X-Boys.

You dont even know what you're talking about. I chose the 360 ovver the ps3 and the wii with NO BIAS opinion. I never owned an xbox you tool. I had a ps2 since the day it was released and I still have it, though i mostly play pc games now. Like I said, unless you have a bias for sony you're gonna be more satisfied with a 360. You cant argue that. And hwy the fuck would me list need to be edited? Look at what youre all saying. So i have to edit that list because you cant buy games that already came out? Doesnt make sense. Those are top rated games that each system will play. Theres a shit load mroe for the 360.

your list was gloating that the 360 has double the top rated titles, with no attention to the difference in console lifetimes.
easy to dismiss, hard to ignore.

not to mention you should really be pulling data from a average review score site like metacritic, and not just one site.
ex. ratchet and clank future is nowhere on the PS3 list for gamespot as the reviewer gave it a 7.5

Yo

Be logical:

1. If I bought a PS3, which games would I buy, or want to buy? If I bought a 360, which games would I buy, or want to buy?

2. Do I have an HDTV on which I would like to watch HD movies?

3. Do I want to pay to play online?

4. Is the controller comfortable in my hands?

5.

there's more to consider, but it's late.

Here's a non-fanboy approach.

It sounds like you want it because its on sale. AKA Impulse buy.

Unless its a candy bar or $4.99 DVD at the gas station, impulse buys are bad, mmkay?

Plus, even if Paypal was still doing the 20% off, you're still paying tax or shipping on a $500 item and the 20% caps at $50. Toss in another $10 for an HDMI cable.

And IMO if you don't own an HD capable display, you shouldn't even bother with a next gen console. It's like putting a thousand dollars worth of stereo equipment into your grandmother's Geo Tracker.

First up...some clean cut advice. If your spending alot of money (and i'd consider anything over $100 bucks to be "alot") then its in your best interest to GO TO THE STORE and buy it yourself, hands-on. Unless you have no choice. And I'll leave that at that.....

Now, to OP question...PS3 or 360?

For the money being spent, Xbox all the way. Who cares about Blu-ray and for that matter, who cares if it EITHER play DVD movies or not....By this day and age, if you have the money to shell out for a PS3, then chances are, you already have a DVD player to play movies etc...

Also, if you were leaning towards getting a PS3, I'll take a chance and assume you already have an HDTV as well. To that extent, theres no reason to have "another" dvd player, so that pretty much cancels the oooosss and aaahhhhs about either platforms being able to run them.

Besides all that, why are you thinking of buying a "gaming" console for anyways? Its not to do your homework.....your not using it to look up recipes for ginger bread cookies...NO...you want to PLAY GAMES.....

That should be your main focus...to hell with everything else.....

That being said....

Ive heard there being issues with both the 360 and PS3...albeit more so about the PS3.

I own neither, but as I said, If I were to invest in one, it would be the 360, for reasons already stated... i.e. the games CURRENTLY available to play. The 360 just has more out there.

And then you have the argument, again, already mentioned.....But...but...but....the reason the 360 has more games is because its been out longer. This argument is stupid and irrelevant to the point. I know I didnt invest a grand into my puter rig for a game that "might" come out a year from now.....hell no....I built it to PLAY GAMES NOW. And again, THAT is the point.

There was the exact same argument for the PS2 and the original xbox. PS2 was heavily favored over the xbox. Hmmmm, and why could that be.....perhaps, because it HAD MORE GAMES TO PLAY and was out on the market at least a year if not longer prior to the xbox. Translate that to today, its the same damn thing, just flip flopped.

I also have friends who have the 360 and we play the same games even though im on a PC, so that is a factor as well. If you want to play games online with your RL friends, then Id take a look at what they have, what they are playing.

Look at the lists these guys have provided....check off the games you already know you like and want to play, then make another checklist of the games you WANT to play and then, go ahead, look into the future to see upcoming games and make the same lists.

Once you make the comparisons and consider the factors Ive mentioned, the answer should be staring back at ya....

You're such a juvenile pathetic fanboy. The average rating was a 54%.:D

Seriously? Almost all the reviews agree, graphics are good, sound and music are great, story is average, but knock it for controls. Like I said, not everyone has good hand-eye coordination or understands how to use a SIXAXIS controller.

I didn't realize I became a fanboy for liking a game

Someone was trying to talk shit by saying "weren't you the one that was looking forward to Lair, and we all see how that turned out". Which is a really stupid thing to say.

Lastly, I don't give a flying fuck about reviews. Reviews usually come from 1 asshole, and I'm not going to base my purchase off 1 asshole. I will instead rent a game or visit several forums to get a general idea of what many people think.

Thank you, but try again.

For the money being spent, Xbox all the way. Who cares about Blu-ray and for that matter, who cares if it EITHER play DVD movies or not

But if one console offers Blu-ray and built in Wi-Fi for the equivalent price of another console that doesn't, isn't that valuable ?

To that extent, theres no reason to have "another" dvd player, so that pretty much cancels the oooosss and aaahhhhs about either platforms being able to run them.

BD isn't another DVD player. It's not redundant. It's an additional bonus feature. You might not care about it, but I think a lot of people would like to get it included with their next videogame console purchase.

Ive heard there being issues with both the 360 and PS3...albeit more so about the PS3.

More issues on PS3 ? Surely you jest. Last time I checked, it didn't have a 30% failure rate.

What a short sighted attitude. A temporary condition has that much influence over your purchasing decision of a product with at least a 5 year lifespan ? We already broke it down. When you compare exclusives vs exclusives there isn't as much difference as commonly believed. Anyone would be foolish not to take upcoming future exclusive titles into heavy consideration.

Not the same thing. That's a terrible analogy. The X360 has nowhere near the market dominance PS2 had last generation. The contest for market share between them is hardly decided. In the end, it will be a much closer margin for a winner between the two than last generation. I have no doubt Wii will maintain its lead over them both, but it's really competing in a different category. It's offering a different experience than Sony or MS.

3 weeks or 3 months? What is your PSN ID
About 3 weeks roughly...why?

edit- never mind, you saw my post in a similar thread and that was a typo (don't know what I was thinking).....are you accusing me of being a 360 fanboi and not even owning a PS3? That's really sad..:p

edit2- joemama127 if you really must know..

I wouldn't want this thread to degenerate into yet another slanging match. Keep it on topic please..

I'm extremely happy I didn't break down and buy a 360. Imo, the only exclusive 360 really has that is (other people seem to think this, not me, halo is crap) good is Halo 3, and as I didn't care for it theres no reason for me to get it. I would of purchased a 360 for GoW, but low and behold it's out for PC and I have my copy.

Not only that but seriously guys, how many of you know at least one person who has had issues with the 360? I know way too many people that have had to send theres back MULTIPLE times. I don't care if they are going to replace my console and even give me a free game, if my 360 died I want to be taken care of the way Nintendo/Sony does it, not waiting without a console for 2+ weeks because the lack of quality killed itself.

Don't get me wrong, 360's are great console when they are working, but when you really look at the games I believe it comes down to whether your a big Halo fan or not. The only other exclusive I might consider is DOA but if it's anything like that last one I'd completely skip it. Because if you boil it down...

GT Series > PGR Series & Forza
Tekken > DoA

PS3 Exclusives I will buy:
GT5
Tekken 6
SOCOM
Killzone 2
Heavy Rain
MGS
Resistance
The Getaway

Plus both consoles are getting Soul Calibur & GTA4.

I will be purchasing a PS3 in the next few months.

GT5 is one of the big reasons why I purchased my PS3. I had it since day 1, never had to send it back. Only freezed up 1 time online playing Fight Night round 3 and thats it.

I'm not going to break down Saw's post because Stereo already did it so well. I really want to, but I wouldn't want to make him feel worse. I did just want to say how foolish it to purchase for the "now." I intend to purchase, or rather recieve, a PS3 for christmas because of what the future holds. I could give a shit less about last years games. There are NO titles out strictly for the xbox that would have me purchase it over the ps3, none.

Your posts tell a different story.

In my opinion, the PS3 is finally starting to come into its own. At $400 for the 40gb version, the price is finally starting to look realistic to me. And while the library is still lacking, there are at least a few must own exclusives, like Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank, out there as well as plenty of multi-platforms, like Assassin's Creed and GRAW 2, if you don't already own a 360.

That said, the 360 still has the edge in games. Of course there are the big ones like Bioshock, Gears of War, Halo 3, and Mass Effect, but there are also tons of great niche and overlooked titles, like Viva Pinata, Crackdown, and Overlord. As for the 360's reliability problems, they certainly have been an issue in the past, but if you check the box in the store to make sure you're getting one that was manufactured recently (ie within the last 2 months) you should be just fine.

In the end I think it comes down to two questions. First, do you already own a decent gaming PC? If so a lot of the 360 games really aren't that exclusive. Of the 7 games I listed above, only 3 aren't available on the PC. Second, do the PS3's features really matter to you? Wireless networking is pretty pointless if you have a cable modem underneath your TV. Bluray is nice, but it's still not a major selling point for a lot of people.

In the past, I would have said wait on th PS3. It was just too expensive and had too little going for it. At the present though, I think it's reached a tipping point where it definitely is the right choice for a certain group of people who have a need or use for some or all of its features. Whether or not you're a member of that group, only you can answer.

I'm currently on my 3rd Xbox 360, and its currently making all the horrid screeching noises at random intervals, and it even freezes in some games..... but it still works. I bought it at costco and as long as I have the receipt they'll give me a new one no questions asked. But i'm kinda to the point where I'm ready to just see if they'll let me pay the difference towards the 80GB PS3. Only difference I see between the two is the console exclusive games and then the live support, but I dont have the time to really enjoy xbox live. Besides the fact that you can store movies on the PS3's internal hard drive is really attractive feature.

If you're interested in the PS3 and have the fundage, go for it. Now's a pretty good time to jump on the bandwagon as they have some good exclusives now (Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and Motostorm) as well as cross-platform titles like Assasin's Creed. Add to that the price drop and the titles coming down the pipe AND blu-ray and to me it's a done deal.

...well, it would be if I could afford it. I <3 my 360 a ton, and have Mass Effect and Assasin's Creed on the way. In reality it's a good time to pick up either console, so purchase whatever one you prefer and enjoy it.

The ONLY caveat I could add is the controllers aren't included with rumble yet.

Man, we got to chill cause you think just like me. haha.. I almost thought I wrote that for a second.

If X360 didn't have such a bad reliability issue, and maybe if exclusives didn't also come to PC I would consider one. I wanted to get one at launch, but didn't have the money, and if most of you remember... it wasn't all that easy getting one. People selling them for lots of cash right before xmas on ebay. By time enough started coming out and people weren't pulling a Wii, one of my friends started to work Customer Care for X360. Their call center is in Austin TX (at least one of them) and he would get off of work and just talk about all these issues people were having. Really made me kinda hold out. I've been holding out to hear word that these issues have been taking care of, but now here we are a year later and I'm still waiting on these same issues to get resolved.

In my waiting for these issues to get resolved the once exclusives that I was looking forward to for X360 are now showing up on PC, something I already have. The only problem with buying a Microsoft Console is that Microsoft is also trying to get into a whole "Games for Windows". Sony and Nintendo are "Games for Consoles". Exclusives will never show up on a PC unless emulated. (good luck with that) You cannot say the same for X360. Although some games come out on the X360 way before they do on PC, they will still make it to PC. If you consider yourself a realistic person, you are not going to physically have enough time to play every single game that comes out, or at least to the fullest. Between owning a PC, a PS3, soon Wii (November is really hurting my bank) and all of my other consoles (which sadly, there are still games on those I own, but have not beat) I won't stress over not playing X360 exclusives the day they come out. I'll have time to see if the game is really worth dropping $ on, I'll have time to play my other consoles, and in time it will come to my PC where I can still play it, and at a cheaper cost. (as in the software not costing $60)

Some people don't get excited for exclusives on the PS3 or Wii, but the exclusives on the X360 does it for them, which they may not want to wait as long as I am willing to. That’s their choice and it's their money, more power to them.

The thing I like most about this current console war, is that all consoles have the ability to get upgraded. Wii is more focused on "fun" games, social games, puzzle games, the whole purpose of the Wiimote, its not focused on HD material or being a multimedia center. That’s ok, it does what it needs to do, but Sony and Microsoft constantly bump heads cause their both kinda striving for the same thing. They both want to be only piece of hardware under your TV. Games, music, movies, web-networking, online play, they just both seem to approach it at different sides of the spectrum. One has BR one had HD-DVD, one has free online one has subscription based (or limited free version), one gets this codex, one gets the other. But I can say this. If Microsoft does something that people really enjoy, Sony is going to try to do something to compete with it. Or the other way around. Which in the end is best for all of us.

My PS3 may look the same on the outside since I've gotten it, but the features have increased by a good amount. But without X360 I don't think the PS3 would be where it is, specially if it was just PS3 vs. Wii. If the Wii prints money, and its doing it with GC type graphics (ok so their a little better, but seriously not all that much better, that doesn't mean GC has shitty graphics) then Sony wouldn't be pushing for the "ultimate HD experience in full 1080p", or not as much as they are now. With competition we will see change happen faster, because no one wants to be last.

With that said, as I invest more money in my PS3, soon to be Wii and my god damn'd expensive ass PC, I don't think I'm going to be getting around to the X360. At this point it just seems like Microsoft has yet to get a grip on the situation with its hardware, by time it does, there will probably be more than tons of games on all of my other 3 platforms, which I probably won't get around to playing them all. People may think the X360 is selling really well, but the defect rate isn't doing them any good financially or with its customers. One thing you learn in Visual Communication Design is that one of your biggest forms of advertising is word of mouth. If someone has a bad experience with something, they probably going to tell their friends and their friends are probably going to be more reluctant to go through that same experience. If enough people get burned by this RROD or having to swap out consoles that don't work probably (eating discs/etc) its going to hurt overall sales. Microsoft could go out the way of Sega and maybe focus more on its Games for Windows, or maybe come back with another console and get the hardware part nailed.

For me Microsoft hasn't fixed the big RROD issue, I don't like buying hardware known for being faulty, I wouldn't buy a graphics card that has a 30% failure rate, or a HDTV, or a camera, etc. At this point my PC, PS3, Wii combo is going to suite all my needs. PC for of course my PC games and later X360 exclusives, PS3 for its exclusives and multiplatform games + BR movies and upscaler for my old DVDs, and the Wii for all my social, drink-able fun games.

I assume only 5% actually read through more than 10% of my post. :p Thank you and have a good day. :)

You're such a juvenile pathetic fanboy. The average rating was a 54%.:D

Yet, user reviews were much better. The reviewers main complaint, was that the controls were bad. If you cant control in Lair, you just suck at games.. its not hard at all.

Nice name calling too, thats "juvenile", as you say.

It also upscales DVD's, which makes them look much better if you have a HDTV.

I think It was penny arcade or one of those guys that posted a little thing about the reviewer "situation." Basically you have to keep in mind that these guys are under time constraints to get through the game and get the review on on a schedule. Also... it's just an opinion.

I've definitely considered getting a Wii as well after playing it. Those things are insanely fun. Wii boxing made me sore. :D
My advice before you buy a Wii, trying playing it for an extended period of time. Wii Sports makes a great first impression on a lot of people, but it just doesn't have much longevity and once you get past that new feeling. The Wii is a whole lot like the Gamecube, there's a great new first party title every 6 months or so, but outside of that there's not much to play.

If you've already got a console or a gaming PC, the Wii, like the Gamecube, makes a great supplementary console, giving you a great unique experience every once in a while. However, if you're a pretty serious gamer there just isn't enough quality content to keep you satisfied if you're using it as your primary console.

That would be my worry about it. But with Brawl coming out, and a few decent shooters, it might be very fun.

I wouldn't by a wii personally, well especially considering the fact I just sold one.:) I had RE 4 Wii edition, Excite Truck, Super Paper Mario, and rented others. Unfortunately for the Wii, and similar to the gamecube, it's highly lacking in quality titles. Most of the games are meant for kids or family, I didn't really like a lot of their offerings. If you look at future releases from gamestop, there's nothing too compelling comming up in the future. There is one title I feel I have missed out on though, which would be Super Mario Galaxy, but fortunately my brother still has a Wii. Other then the first party titles, nintendo has never really been that great of a console for hardcore gamers. But if your looking for a good experience with friends and family, then i'd recommend it. As a side note: I also borrowed my friends copy of the new Zelda, but I played most of it on gamecube and the controls are ownly SLIGHTLY preferable.

As for the PS3 if your interested in High def movies, MGS 4, Kill zone 2, GT 5 and other future titles that will most certainly be quality for gamers, i'd stick to PS 3.

The user reviews were 6.1 that's not much better. Yeah all those game reviewers are a bunch of noobs, and just don't have your 1337 gaming skillz. Yeah that's the ticket; you just keep believing that champ.
