PS3 - no audio with component cables...?

Hi,

I bought a PS3 yesterday and hooked it up with the cables the system came with (A/V)...well I'm running the PS3 to my Dell 2405 widescreen monitor and it took all of about 2 minutes to realize i definately needed component cables to make games worth playing.

I just came back from buying a sony brand cable at BB. now heres how i had things setup. I have a 460, and was running component cables from that as well. Since my monitor does not have attached speakers, i ran a cable from my sound cards input jack through a male to male connector, hooking the component from the 360 cables to my sound card, coming out of my cheapo speakers. This worked great.

Anyway, i just unhooked my 360 and plugged in my ps3 in the same fashion. when i first turned it on, i got no picture, but got sound through the cables. I swapped back to the first cables, set the system to 1080i and swapped the plug back, getting glorious 1080i picture. However, the component cables are not supplying sound to my computers speakers. I've double checked and the audio settings are going to the a/v leads, not optical or hdmi. So im not sure why im not getting sound. is my jury-rigging with the male-male connector keeping the ps3 from using this setup? do i now need to go buy new speakers or use the optical port for sound?

thanks

im stupid and can't read everything before replying.

since you were able at one point to get sound or video, you must have a wiring issue.

maybe you have the 2 red wires backwards? (red for video and red for right audio channel)

Do you have any cables besides the component hooked up? Component cables carry video only, no audio. Composite cables are the crappy ones that do video and audio.

when it comes to a component adapter for a game console its audio and video. so 5 wires total (red green and blue video, red and white audio)

It's working now. apparently i have a bad connection in one of my sound connectors cause it was fading in and out until i moved em around.
