Is it just me or does the overall networking capability of PS3 blow completely? Sometimes I can log into PSN on the first attempt or the same thing with a game connecting to its server. More often than not it takes numerous times to connect to PSN or a game to initialize correctly. Sometime I can not connect not matter how many times I try.

Is the PS4 any better? What is the cause of this: crappy PS3 code, crappy server side code, lack of overall servers?
 
Is this wired or wireless? I have never been happy with the PS3 wireless, choosing to hard wire it whenever i can. The PS4 seems to be a lot better in that regard, especially since it supports wireless n at least (no 5GHz though). That said i still hardwire my PS4.
 
It is wireless. Is wired that much better? None of my other wireless devices have issues. I really do not want to stick a 100' of ethernet cable up from the basement.
 
I'd say its Sony's network that's bad, but I don't think it's terrible. It's reason they offer up the free games on PlayStation Plus, to get people to complain less about the network. Hopefully with the money they are getting from new subs on the PS4 it will improve.
 
The wireless (antenna?) is really bad.

My other devices (phones, tablets, laptops) all work fine from the living room, but my PS3 probably loses the wireless connection once or twice a day. My router is currently about 30-40 feet away behind a few interior walls. I never had any issues when the router was in the same room.
 
I think PSN's network was never built to withstand the load of peak times. If you've ever tried to download a firmware update after 15:00 you would see how slow it is and how often the connection just drops.

And the wireless adapter built into the PS3 has always had issues. Not only would connection speed be up to 7x slower than wired in my case, but I would always get dropped connections and never have the quality to push multiplayer games. My experience has been similar on the PS4 so far, even with a signal strength in the 90% range.

Bottom line is: if you have a Playstation, connect to your network with an ethernet cable.
 
Wireless on ps3 is not good wired or using a external wireless to wired adapter is a much better option. Being hardwired I never have issue with ps3 or ps4 unless psn has an issue.
