How can I stream video, music and pictures to my PS3 through the "media servers" wirelessly (have a wireless network and PC/PS3 synced to)?

Using Windows Media Player

1. Start Media player and add your files to the library.
2. Click the library at the top, and choose Media Sharing
3. Check Share My Media, click OK
4. Click settings, enable what type of media and ratings you want to share. You *might* have to enable All Ratings for Star ratings if you don't see anything on your PS3.
5. Click OK
6. Go to your PS3. Tell it to scan for Media Servers, it should find one (or not, no biggie).
7. Go to your PC, you should see a new devices in the box. Click on it, and click Allow.

Now, I'm not sure if you have to scan for media players on your PS3 again or note, but give it a shot if you can't find a media server. There are tutorials all over the net using a dozen different programs as servers. If WMP doesn't work for you (it didn't work on my XP machine, but worked perfectly on vista, I don't know why-- don't really care), try one of the other ones.

I use tversity.. works pretty well as for some reason when the ps3 tried to stream from wmp it would crash my pc. Tversity was easy to set up and does everything I need it to do currently.

I use TVersity and it works great. Right now the only problem it has is with a few select XviD codecs (doesn't happen often). It'll play the first 7 seconds and then stop.

I believe you can get around this with recoding in Virtual Dub, but my guess is XviD will eventually becoming a supported format through the PS3 without recoding or TVersity will make an update which fixes the problem.

I use Nero MediaHome (comes with Nero Ultra, of course Nero is not freeware.. oh well)

Yes, all media servers will be installed on the PC.. you don't need to install anything on the PS3.

just google PS3 and TVersity and you'll find a good tutorial on it... there are even youtube videos out there.

I liked tversity better than media player....

I need to get Tversity working. I've been using WMP11 and for some reason it's "wonky"

Wonky meaning: It will randomly refresh the PS3, won't allow access to the files, show the list -then it will disappear, not show up at all, and sometimes when I refresh the library on my PC it will just stop halfway through the file finding process, and then nothing shows up.

And yet it will work flawlessly other times.

I can't get tversity to show up at all, even following every tutorial to a T, turning off all firewalls, and ensuring there are no blocks between the PC and the PS3.

And yet (this is not intended to spark debate) when I use the 360 I can access everything. So, needless to say, I'm stumped.

It's a great feature when it works.

I had better luck with Tversity on XP, as I was getting the same results that you were with Media Player 11. But with MP11 on Vista, I had zero issues.

Not saying it's an XP vs Vista issue, as my XP install has a lot of software running on it that vista doesn't (web servers on odd ports, different media servers for different devices, lots of various software applications).

Tversity installed and started working instantly. If you're having problems, it is probably something simple -- maybe another application trying to serve something on the same port?

This is why I stopped using WMP, but I didn't have any problems at all with setting up TVersity (just followed instructions).

wmp worked fine for me on my xbox, but not on the ps3, tversity worked fined on ps3, but not on the xbox lol.. any way after the latest tversity patch everything works and is better than before, so if any one has been having a problem try updating tversity.

I set up Tversity this afternoon and I am damned impressed. I tried the same sort of thing with the 360 and it was a pita. With the PS3, it just worked. Highly recommended, esp if you're on the fence about which to use.

Well I have tried TVersity, Nero Media Center, and Windows Media Player. I am streaming HD content via wireless 54mps Dlink Gaming Router. I have a PS3 and Xbox360. If I do not transcode the video, the video will play just fine on both the PS3 and the Xbox. The problem though is that the audio will not play on the PS3 so it must be using a codec that it doesn't know about.

So anyways if I Transcode, the video is stuttering. See PC is sig if you want to know that. Is everyone here transcoding? If so, what are your settings? Can this be done on wireless?

It seems that the Xbox360 has more codecs than the PS3. I might end up just grabbing my external HD and hooking it up. Would be nice though to stream.

If you're trying to steam high bitrate, or HD content your rig may be suffering. I'm running bone stock transcode settings and only on the h264 files am I seeing any stuttering, and even those are minor - certainly not show stoppers. The Tversity site hints that you need a 2.X ghz Core 2 CPU to stream HD efficiently.

You may also be missing some codecs if you're having sounds issues. I declined the Tversity installers codecs but am running the CCCP (combined community codec pack) with zero issues.

I have it set to transcode if it is needed, however I don't have any stuttering issues and I'm using a far less powerful machine (not wireless).
