PS3 Launch Titles

Im 28 and still in college... LOL, but hey im in grad school too though. I dont think its rare at all for people over 23,24 or 25 to be in school. There are plenty of people in their 30s and on up at my school.

Here's some info on salary of expected starting salary when graduating with various degrees.

Link.

I think anyone in the upper half of this bracket would have absolutely no problem forking over the $200 for a PS3 on launch day. The lower half...well, they probably could too, but it wouldn't be quite as easy.

I got my Bachelor degree in 6 years, though it would have been 5 years... maybe 4 and a half, had I decided on my major right away, and not just before I finished my 2nd year of school. Also, if the CS classes had more sessions offered, so I could take more then one or two some semesters.

Anyway, sorry to go off topic. :)

I graduated 2 years ago and am 32 years old.....I would guess an average age for graduation to be around the mid 20's; thanks to overachievers who get out in 3 1/2 to 4 years, and the people like me that take 8 years off to sow some oats :D

I currently make 45-50K per year (dependent on my bonuses), and I wouldn't consider a ps3 at $600. The $400 I spent on my 360 was pushing the limits for sure. It's not that I can't afford it, its just hard for me to justify it. The "rate of return" just isn't high enough for me.......

edit: and holy shit people, its COLLEGE not COLLAGE.

I finished when I was 22, but it was certainly common for students to be in school up to 25-26. Most of those cases involved people changing directions in a major way, getting a late start, or being forced to go back by an employer.
Last I checked, the average BS/BA was pulling 35-40K on average after a few years.
It's no longer the big deal and huge leg up that it once was. Within 15 years a 4 year degree will equate to a high school degree from the 70's.
The PS3 is pricy for EVERYONE. Yes, I can afford it...but it's not a matter of being able to as it's a matter of justifying it and not having a better alternative.
I could've gotten a 50" Plasma HD last year, but a projection was a better deal in every way, and I saved several grand as a result.
The PS3 is the same way. Would I rather buy that and hope that some games I want show up, or would I rather buy something else like a Wii or even just some PC and 360 games?
I could also buy the 360's HD drive if I felt compelled to get a "next gen" drive, too...although I don't feel that need.
Even if someone has the money, you've still got to weigh what else you could use it for.
America IS living on credit, but $600 is a pretty hefty amount for the typical Wal Mart crowd's credit limit. It's not to say plenty won't jump on it anyway, but I think that price is still prohibitive.

Seriously, I kept thinking to myself, "So they graduated kindergarten and were making $20,000 per year?"

Last I heard 80% of students that go to college dont graduate. Numbers might be different for University, but pretty sure thats acurate for community college. (at least thats where I got that information.)

That's probably a misleading statistic, even if it is true. Many people take courses at Community Colleges with no intention of starting a full degree program. That's sort of one of the purposes of Community Colleges, to provide a source for continuing education within a community rather than focusing primarily on degree programs.

Ha! guilty admiting (myself)

Granted I am a graphic artist so :p

random thought:

how many ppl still remember what the topic of this thread is? :D

hah, if by farming you mean plowing the ladies, then yes.

And I vaguely remember hearing something about PS3 launch titles at the start of this thread......

whoa, thats a launch title? somebody needs to tell sony to freakin announce the game or somthing, I havent heard anything about it except from yourself Lamont.

hope you arent breaking any NDA's bro.

BBall is always in November. Unless something bad happens, the game should be there. I can't post pics but I think a mag/or website is gonna have some soon.

Any idea when sony will show off the game? If not anytime soon, or you can't say...can you comment on how it looks and plays so far?

but I understand if you can't, NDA's sure do suck :p

edit: ah didnt catch your edit in time. hope to see that mag or site soon.

Tell how it looks and how it plays? No, but I can say that everyone is kicking ass to make it as nice as possible. I just hope everyone else digs it!

well that sounds good. :) looking forward to it.

you can add blazing angels to the list also, was announced yesterday for ps3. quite a few titles in the launch.

everbody is argueing about price but if the PS3 comes out with killer aps like the ps2 had (Onimusha, FF7, FFX, RE2, Devil May Cry, MGS, God of War, GTA, etc.) people will forget about the price and buy it anyway.

Right now nothing on Xbox 360 makes me want to go out and buy it nothing makes me go holy shit! I need to go buy that that games sick! On the other hand theres nothing on the PS3 line up right now either......

MGS4 on launch wont magically make an extra $100 appear in my pocket. I think you're on crack.

Launch day is for fanatical, rich console fans. no one else. If you can't spare an extra $100, then you are irrelevant to the process.

I'm calling your position irrelevant. If people want it enough, it will sell, regardless of the price.

Remember the Xbox360 launch? The ebayers were commanding $1000+ for those systems; you couldn't even get a console for 7 months after that. Price is a secondary concern in this market, the masses griping over $100 are not the target audience, at least for a good year or two into the process.

If 2008 or 2009 comes around and the PS3 is still $500, you have a point. However, that isn't at all likely.

Kids, we'll just have to wait and see about everything, I guess. You can't push your opinion(s) on someone else...it goes nowhere.
