Will it allow you to play PS2 and PS1 games from the hard drive? Are there any interesting apps out yet?

No, No, and No.

That said, there's been some progress in the last couple of days, and it appears that they've got to the point where they can load other firmwares in ram, which could lead to some worthwhile developments.

I wouldn't ever expect to see PS2 games played from the HDD, unless you have a PS2 compatible PS3 that is.

Edit - This is currently being worked on...

What I am waiting for is a home theater app that will replace the HTPC, that would be brilliant.

Pretty much just a PC. Oh, and an appropriate USB dev key so that you could use the PS3Groove software obviously.

What software are people using?

ps3groove based on his statement - the trick is getting hardware capable of running the software.

to the guy who said piracy - yes its possible and thats what most people are going to use it for. i dont think thats true for the people on these forums though.

i have a rooted android phone, i've never pirated any software for it though. its down to the person

Is there anything actually worth jailbreaking for? I am not going to pirate games but if there is anything else interesting on there I might try it out.

Well as said...I am able to play SNES games on the ps3 now...Just finished playing some donkey kong country...

You can play pong :p And as said earlier, they are working on a dreamcast emulator...so that would be very nice!

If you have a PSP, then you can enable remote play on any ps3 game right now...so you can play ps3 games that don't even support remote play on your psp. Also, they are working on where you can play psp games on the PS3...

Many new things are getting worked on...it shall get interesting over the next few weeks...especially with how fast people are figuring things out!

I think as long as people avoid posting about piracy and any links that would help with piracy it should be good. Just got to keep it to things like emulators and other neat things you can do with a jailbreak ps3.

Id love to see a home theater interface like the xbox has with their media center. I enjoyed it a lot more and if it wasn't for he fact my 360 is a super noisy launch console id still be using it as my media center instead of my ps3.

I would love to play old games on my ps3, especially some PS1 goodies.

But I'm going to go the route of buying the FF games from the PSN store, they are worth the price, same with Metal Gear Solid.

ALL PS3 will play PSone games. Its pure software emulation, so it doesn't cost SONY to have it in there.

I think his point might have been that he'd rather download games from the sony store than jailbrake in order to run the games from iso's or run them normally off the CD.

I have a hacked PSP, it's not really hard to grab them if I want to, but I kinda wanna buy em off the PSN store so I can have a copy on my PS3, plus you can move them to your PSP too, so it's like i'll always have a copy available to play.

I THINK you can swap saves between the PSP and PS3, but I am not sure about that.

Not that I advocate this kinda thing but of you have cfw on your PSP then it will play any PSOne ISO anyway.

Then how about we make sure don't go to the the illegal side of the conversation? You know the mods are watching this thread closely, so lets keep it safe.

Anyways, they released a updated video of the Dreamcast emulator...Its getting close!

And they released a registry editor and custom firmware loader the other day so people are getting close! Can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next couple weeks!

I just ripped all my hardcopy PSone games to my psp. Perfectly legal, but I don't think I've played any of them yet :p

I'm running Ubuntu on a version of the 2.x firmware. Is there any reason not to upgrade to 3.15?

This jailbreaking stuff cracks me up. It's funny because as a pc gamer all I've been hearing for years from various developers is how pirating is killing the pc side. So, I was amazed to see an actual market segment and industry devoted to selling mod chips and other various gadgets to hack the Xbox 360 and other consoles. It might not be as easy as downloading pirated software for the pc, but it seems rampant and growing. Perhaps, the major developers will grow a pair and admit that pirating affects all gaming platforms and let's get back to developing great games. There's no real excuse for focusing only on the consoles to combat piracy. So, stop using that as an excuse.
