When ever i turn on the PS3 and play a game or demo the bottom part near the side vent gets very hot! (the system is horizontal) is it suppose to be this hot?

Yup mine is warm to the touch on idle and really dam hot during active use, Don't worry though. If the system does overheat it will power itself down rather then kill itself like another console...

Yeah, my friend's could boil an egg on the case and it runs without a hiccup..... My 360 doesn't even get that hot....

Heat is not a problem unless something stops working. My PS3 heats up quite a bit as well in games, but I doubt it's anything to worry about. I mean it's been, what, almost eight months since launch, and we haven't heard horror stories about PS3 failures due to heat. We were getting those about a week after the 360 launch IIRC.

oh? I never knew that. good info. mine gets quite warm as well and its off when not in use. screw folding

During winter time, having the ps3 on could sustain enough heat for my bedroom as long as the door was closed. Now that it's warmer, ps3 constantly locks up. Dust galore! And the other day with ambient of around 35'c, it locked up as well.
