I just got a new PS3 Slim 160GB and I was wondering what is the largest/best hard drive upgrade that I can get? I was reading about people getting a 1TB drive but that it needed some modifications in order to fit into the PS3. I don't want to make any mods to get the hard drive to work or fit into my PS3. What would you guys recommend in terms of a HD upgrade that is easy and will work without any modifications?

I threw in a ssd to my ps3 and to be honest, it was a waste of a ssd.

The ps3's I think are better suited to normal harddrives, throwing a ssd into one makes no sense as it doesnt make thing's any faster, or if it does, its not by much compared to a normal harddrive, that was my experience with a 120 gig ssd plugged into mine, I eventually went back to using a big harddrive so I could get the benefit of the ssd someplace else.

I've been doing some research on this recently myself. The main physical size limits are 2.5" and 9.5mm tall.

The biggest I've seen recently that meet those specs are 640gb and 750gb drives. Of note is the fact that some of these newer drives are "Advanced Format". I've heard some rumors that these might be slower unless this is specifically supported. To what extent, I don't know.

Let us know which drive you choose and how it works out.

I put a 2.5" 12.5mm 1TB drive in my PS3. It's even easier than installing a standard 9.5mm drive.

Pull out old drive with cage. insert new drive without cage, put some foamy stuff on the end of the drive between the plastic cover and the drive. Screw cover back on, and you're done. the 12.5 fits just perfectly in the slot without the cage present.

Dunno why everyone says you can't, or you have to modify the drive cage. You don't.
