PS3 Controller problem

So I had a old 80 gig ps3 that I bought used on ebay, worked fine, and the controller that came with it. Then my parents bought me a 120gig slim so I figured I would use it instead, since it's new and all right? lol mistake. Everything has been going fine for a few days, with the new system and new controller, until a few days ago. My controller won't stay on if I unplug it, and it's fully charged. When I unplug it, the 4 lights up top blink and then they all go off and the controller is dead until I plug it up. Very frustrating, making me play close to the tv all the time and a new console+new controller shouldn't be doing this. What gives? I reset the controller 2 times, same problem.

I have the same problem with my new slim. What I have to do is turn off the PS3 with the controller plugged in, then unplug the controller and turn it back on. I guess there is some problem with the controller staying connected to the console.
