Shacknews has confirmed that the rumors last fall claiming that the PS3 was a contributing factor to GTA4’s delay were actually true. Why the company waited so long to admit that is a bit odd.

"It's really no surprise to anybody that the PS3 was definitely a contributing factor to that," Barerra told MTV. "Now, we're neck and neck. That's not an issue anymore. But back then that was something we were taking into account."

Stupid PS3, too hard to code for. Everyone should just drop support for it :D

xbox360ftw

Maybe they didn't want anybody to know as it would be even more bad press for Sony/PS3. Now that they are "neck and neck" it doesn't matter. Now the real question is did Sony pressure them to deny this last year.

Magic Eightball says "Most Likely"

I'd rather wait to play it on the PS3 then have a 360 die on me while gaming.

bastards. I wanted GTA for PC out sooner

I'm not sure WHEN the PC version is coming out, I saw the release saying Xbox/PS3 and the official site only has those 2 boxes showing.

I'm sure we will get it but it might be 6mths or so to make sure the consoles get their lead (a tad strange since it is not an "exclusive title")

imo the first few were not that great. But hey, if you guys like them then more power to you. I'll go back to my closet and pray for more flight sims.

I would rather have played it in October. If it breaks down. Wait a month for my repaired unit to return and finished the game (with all side missions) by new years. Instead, because of ps3 I have to wait until late april. "shake fist" "grind teeth"

Back in October, the 360 version wasn't even anywhere near done either. Back then they were still complaining about being limited on the DVD9 format (both Vice City and San Andreas used most of the DVD9 back on PS2 and now they're trying to squeeze in a game much, much larger in scope onto the same media size) and no hard drive requirement that MS set on them, so even if the PS3 version never even existed, most likely you'd still be waiting to this day for it to come out.

Fun fact: they delayed announcing that the 360's media and hard driveless requirement put a big road block in development as well.

Funny how CoD4, which is far more technically advanced than GTA4, was developed by in less time and performs quite well on both the 360 and PS3 and was delivered on time.

Bottom line: Rockstar is spouting crap about their own ineptitude.

They've always had performance problems ever since GTAIII.

Not even that, but the game was a mess a few months ago too, with tons of framerate issues that severely hampered the game.

Now, this stuff is cleared up.

I've got a feeling blaming it on the PS3 is just Rockstar not wanting to say "We needed more time on the game because the build we were originally was going to put out sucked, and the industry called us on it".

I firmly believe that if the industry DIDN'T make such a big fuss over the game's horrible framerate at whatever show it was shown at, we could have seen it in October. It's one of the first times I've ever seen a preview by any big name review site / mag pull so much attention to a negative, usually it's all positive until the game drops and then they slam it.

sony haters love threads like this.
The only thing that fails are fan boys.

If you only knew the atrocities sony has committed then you wouldn't like them either. They say the love of money is the root of all evil, this is where sony falls. Anything to make a buck.

PS3 = a boatload of hot garbage.

Looking in all the game mags for the past year and a half, I've YET to see more then 5 titles that I WANT a PS3 for.

Just wait, MGS4 is coming to 360.
Konami is not that fucking stupid.

And no I'm not talking about RESISTANCE.
GOW pwned RESISTANCE like a 290lb Chicago cop beating on a 110lb bartender.

Wow, so many PS3 haters in this thread. At least when I bought the PS3 on launch day it didnt f up like my 360s. I bought 3 360s and all three had the ring of death. Call it what you may but 3 360s that have the ring of death is just bull.

Yeah it does suck that the console worth playing breaks on you.

F*CK CONSOLES. MAKE IT FOR THE GODDAMN PC ALREADY!!!

I love GTA, keep up the good work Rockstar <3.

wasnt it the 360 that was delaying the release of gta4 due to not having enough room to store all the textures of the game into a dual layer dvd?

haha what a shame. ps3 tried to play that "we got more storage space" card againts the 360 and it backfired

obviously Rockstar wants to get it right no matter what console it comes on. Who really cares which system it looks better on anyway? please give me a game that was as fun to play as GTAIII was when it came out. Gameplay hasn't changed that much in it, and for me, the series is getting old.

how hi-def does the whore you're killing really need to be XD

also, why don't they make it a requirement for some games to have a hard drive? you would think MS would want to do this so they could be all like "you wanna play GTAIV? buy this $100 20gb hard drive, or this $180 120gb hard drive, fool". it's microsoft, you'd think they'd allow customers to be milked as much as possible.

i know it's not practical, and this would never happen... but maybe it would make game development easier for Rockstar if they could require the game need a hard drive on 360

Lol are you ok? what makes you think the game needs a bigger hdd? the reason why the game is delayed is because of ps3 and there crapware inside that blu ray space machine they have there

No one wants to make games for it, that's the funny part. Splinter Cell Conviction is going to be 360 and PC only now because the PS3 is just a pile of trash.

The game isnt delayed because of the PS3.
The game is delayed because rockstar wanted to support multiple platforms and later realised that it would take more work and they needed to learn how to develop for said other platforms...

The fail here isnt the PS3, its rockstar inability to plan ahead.

Or it could be because the PS3 is so different that they HAD to take the time to learn to code for it. Standardization is a good thing.

So you think they where just going to wing it without knowing how to write code for the PS3? These developers knew how to make games for the PS3 long before the thing was out they know...

And really, i dont want to get into that whole console war.
The xbox360, ps3 and wii all cather to different people.
I have a ps3 and a wii.
The ps3, i got because i wanted hidef and beleived that bluray was winning. I also wanted to share my medias from the computer to the living room, which it allows me to. And after that, i wanted to play some consoles games (rockband, guitar hero, tony hawk's, ect) but i also wanted to play some old ps2/ps1 classics.

The wii i got because i wanted to have some dumb-social-gaming-fun.

If i had beleived the HD DVD was gonna win, i could have gone for an xbox with the external hd-dvd player + a ps2 (mine was broken at the time, still is as my ps3 plays my old games)

Its only a question of what YOU NEED/WANT.
I think the xbox360 is a great console, has a much wider game choice than my ps3. However, it wasnt quite what i needed.

Please stop the whole 'my xb0x0rz > ps3' thing... its childish and becomes annoying to see every thread talking about a console being hi-jacked by fans of the other...

Doesn't the latest version of GTA usually take at least a year before it comes out for PC? I hear what you're saying, as I waited for GTA San An to come out for PC, but since I own a 360, it's not hard to guess that I can't wait that much longer for the PC version.

The cell processor is harder to program for than the XBOX and PC. Notice how there are so many XBOX and PC ports? Becuase they're very similiar and are easy to port.

I realize this but my point was they know how to write code for the PS3:rolleyes:

Yeah, because the PPC and X86 architectures are so similar - it's just a breeze. The irony in your statement is that both the Xbox 360 CPU and the Playstation 3 Cell Broadband Engine contain PowerPC elements. They are quite similar in setup with the exception of the SPUs - which aren't anything to be seen as a "challenge."

Go back to that hole you came from, L33t Masta.

Keep in mind that companies tend to split their engineers so that everyone has an equal share of workers on both projects (xbox360 and PS3). Also the ps3 version of assassin's creed was delayed a few days before the xbox 360 version came out. Maybe it could be coding, maybe the access to Bluray, I am just speculating. However Ubisoft did promise the game to be release for both system from the get-go.

Wow, flamebait much.

Regardless, I've got all 3 consoles and use my 360 the most, and only play PS2 titles on my PS3 so far anyway, although it does get use for Blu-Ray (have a standalone HD-DVD player also), and my Wii is probably used the least of all.
