I just purchased an 80gb ps3, I have this hooked up to my 42" philips 1080p screen via hdmi. When I try to watch a movie on the ps3 its just displaying 1:1, so its playing in a box, no matter what display options I try to change on the ps3 I can't get it to go full screen (at least full screen with black bars on top and bottom anyway). I put a movie into my 360 which is also hooked up via hdmi on the same screen and it has a zoom option which will fill the screen out like its suppose to. any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

Weird.

First thing, makes sure you have your plasma's zoom/screen fill setting set to "full" or, whatever option it might be called on a Philips.

- You have it hooked via HDMI (like the 360) I'm assuming?

- You have 1080p selected as your output resolution on the PS3, right?

My PS3 is not hooked up right now, so I can't look at the menu to tell exactly which options, sorry, but have you enabled/disabled the Upconversion options on the PS3?

In all honestly you shouldn't have to zoom a DVD with the PS3 or 360 at all, my guess is its a TV setting. All widescreen TV's have a 'screen' button or "picture format" button on the remote that can make a widescreen picture square, and a square picture rectangle, so check that option.

yep, I am using hdmi on both the 360 and ps3. I have tried changing the tv's display options too, changing it to 1:1 setting (unscaled its called on the philips), automatic and widescreen, non of which help, one of them kinda of zooms the picture in like 1/2", other two leave it the same.

Do you have upscaling/full-screen turned on? That might be the culprit.
You shouldn't need to use your TV's settings unless you're trying to zoom beyond letterboxing.

Be sure to put the latest Firmware on the PS3, my 80gb came with a fairly old version.

I updated to the latest firmware as well, first thing I did. The only dvd I tried was Rounders.

** Just tried lord of the rings and its fine with upscaling turned on, so must be something with rounders I guess.
