Believe me... this is the closest I have ever gotten to a spider...but it honestly fascinated me, in a creepy fascination way....(no.. I didn't expire it's life..). I just might have the creepy crawlies for a while... Any ideas what it is??

Oh great! Another poster who is going to post pictures that will give me nightmares. :) Just kidding. That's a weird looking spider though.

Also, when photographing these critters you really need to stop down more. Using Av mode, start at at least f16. Manual focus is the key. Don't even bother with AF you'll just get frustrated for nothing. I'm assuming this was some variety of 70-300 so set it to 300mm and set your focus to its closest setting and then move the entire camera body in and out. When you see it come into focus release the shutter. Repeat until subject runs away. You should be using flash so set your WB to the flash setting. Turn that red eye setting off. In fact, leave it off afterwards. It doesn't do anything anyhow and adds delay

 Nice shots..
and for future reference, whatsthatbug.com is a good source of creepy crawly info along with the plus side of posting user pics sent in. One of my assassin bug pics is there, though cropped and rotated.
