PS fan on top or bottom?

I need to upgrade my 300 watt PS to a 500 watter. However, my tower (HP Media Center m7680n) has no vents at the top of the case where the PS is. Most of the higher wattage power supplies have a fan that looks like it sits on top of the PS, which will block off all air flow. The stock PS I have now has a fan that is in the back of the tower and it has vents toward the front and bottom of the PS for air.
Question is, can I turn the new PS over so the fan is facing the bottom? Or, do I have it all wrong? Because I have seen PS units that look like thay have the fans on the bottom.
Thanks for the help.

I think that most PSUs have the fan on the bottom. It only looks like it is on the top because they flip the PSU over to take a picture of it so you can see the fan.

Either way, it is possible to mount a PSU upside down on many computer cases since the mounting brackets are usually cut out to in a way to make it possible.

I too want to upgrade the power supply on my m7680n from HP.

What is the type/frame/shape for this power supply ? Is it ATX12 ?

I am looking for 400W minimum. SUPER DUPER quiet. Any ideas as to a potential source?

Thanks.

There's no way we can tell you that without pictures of it unless one of us is personally experienced with that particulatr PC. HP has a bad habit of jumping all over the place with PSU's in that one will have ATX and the next mATX. They're an odd company that way, no standardization at all.
