Hey all, new here.

I work for a computer place, and there's apparently a new guy on the block by the name of Prudent Way. They seem to have some quality products, as we already carry their universal ac adapters for laptops, and they're ok. As its kind of hard to compete in a retail storefront anymore with cheap crap, anyone hear anything about these guys? Their website is prudentway.com in case anyone's curious.

Thanks,
Sorc

Hmmm - 6 days, 1 post. Seems like an ad to me....Perhaps I'm just too cynical.

Not an ad, but they've been around for less than a year and can't find any reviews on them even. I've got an Allied power supply (450w) that's done me well for now, but I read that it was on the DON'T BUY THIS list, and that's what the store carries. So I'll put it this way: Are they crap? Does anyone know? I don't have the FCC Id, so I can't look it up to see who made them, so I'm in the dark.

Maybe I should go into advertising...

Edit: 6 days, 2 posts :p I went camping for Memorial Day.

I looked at their web site and they say their PSUs are 70% efficient. Given that other PSU makers are exceeding 80% and that's pretty much the minimum for Energy Star etc, I'd say Prudent Way is behind the times.

There are good brands out there. There's little room for another also-ran.

Oof, I didn't even notice the 70% there...looking at ours now, they're not so great either. Thanks all, sorry for the false start. Here's to becoming an actual forum member.

Minor update: We just got a 350Watt sample in, it's got dual rail 12v, one at 11A, the other at 14A...but it's uncannily similar to a Dynex power supply, down to the connector ends, honeycomb backplate and 120mm fan.

Not impressed.

Not new, the Computer store I used to work for carried those. They are not bad for the price.Only had to replace like 2 in over 2 years.

Not new eh? Our rep said they were a new product. I'd believe you though, anything to get business. I see they go up to 850w. Nothin special below that point. The dynex power supplies have been decent enough when we see 'em come through, but I've got this thing against Best Buy brands.

Unless I can find a way to open it up without voiding the warranty, I won't be able to. We end up using the samples in one way or another. The UL id isn't readily apparent on the outside, nor can I see a sticker on the inside through the grating... Will update when/if I've got more.

Found the UL number (actually what I was looking for when I said FCC). It's a nice blur of ink, but I believe it's e164554 -- UL link nothing matched specifically on the specs...but that's the page. Like I said previously, unless this thing dies, I'm not going to be able to take it apart, and even then it's got a warranty. I can see some part numbers on the caps (non-solid) and what I'll assume are transformers (in disguise!) etc. From what I can see from the side, the soldering job is pretty well done, no huge globs, no cold joints, but that's only the few I see. I'll have to bring my digital camera in on monday (next shift) and post pics of what I've got.

That link indicates L&C which equals CRAP....

Kill it with FIRE! :)

Unless I can find a way to open it up without voiding the warranty, I won't be able to.
Brand new razor blade, remove oil from it. Slowly press between case and warranty sticker while applying heat with a hair dryer. Works every time, except when the sticker is made to turn color if heated.

lol the guy has been a member of the [H] for 15 days and you are already giving him instructions on how to void a psu warranty :D
