ProtoCase - design your own case

Knew of this place for a good 3 to 4 years now. Never actually bought anything off them. Always too busy to enquire. But They are very professional

on second thought, this is not what i'v been looking for :/

it hardly lets you design a case. what it does, it helps the guys at protocase put you case's measurements into their machine. you still have to plan it and design it on paper, then input it into the SW and send it to them.

what i want is a SW that has solid objects corresponding not only to the case walls, but to the PSU, mobo, GPUs, HDs, WC .. all this protothingie does is "where do you want the holes"

I liked the idea, but i need pre-set cutouts for PCI slots, most importantly would be for mobo I/O panel..

would be nice to have fans and such where I want them in my servers

Can't you just create your own sldprts based on standard form factors and arrange them as needed in an assembly? That's what I do.

not cheap! i designed a basic matx chassis with very minimal stuff and they wanted 1400 to manufacture. this is with me doing all the design work in autocad myself.

That's crazy! A local job shop at even inflated rates should be able to fabricate for under $400 easy. Especially if working off of CAD files (as opposed to napkins drawings and such). Laser and press-break time is minimal on even the most elaborate cases.

O.M.god

that is ridiculous;

------------------------------

anyway, i'v talked to the guys behind protocase and told them how i feel, they said that solid objects - or "construction objects" - are in the works; or planned, at least.

@c-mad.

yes, ofc i can.

but then why do i need protocase? as you say, i could do it on napkins and then bring the napkins to any sheet cutting business and they would do it for me, without me needing to learn protocase, spend the time, or even risk making mistakes. i need a case AND components arranging and design software because i don't know how i want my case; that's why i need it. if i have the case already designed on paper, i don't need the software.

sux because this SW could be really great.
