So my MegaWorks 650's died several months ago.
I have saved up enough for a new high end speaker system after enduring some generic crap 2.1 system in the mean time.

I have been looking at the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 ultras and the Gigaworks 750s

I'm leaning towards the gigas as they are about the same price and have a higher rated output (i need something to wake the neighbors at 3AM.... incase of fire... or alien invasion of course :D )

1. Anyone have any comments on the general sound quality comparison of these two
2. Are the Gigas actually that much louder?
3. Which would you get if you were in the market for high end pc speakers for ~400-500USD

Or am i neglecting another option (logitech maybe...)

Edit: Also how well does the gigaworks 7.1 upmixing work with my 6.1 sound card?
 
Have you searched the forums.. cause I swear there is a new thread about these speakers every day.
 
Personally, I would get the 7.1's - Mine are actually on the way! (Coming in Tuesday) to replace my Megaworks 510D's which I'm selling. $370 shipped - after a $50 MIR at www.compuplus.com

Both of these are excellend quality, and it's mostly personal preference on which one you get. The Klipsch in every review I've read has better bass extension and is like an entry HT sub. The Gigaworks is no slouch either, but the Klipsch is better. The gigaworks also have a cleaner midrange and not as harsh upper end....but this is still all dependant on listening tastes and the sound environment/room you're in.

As for loudness, they both get up to the 110db+ with no distortion. Seriously though, how loud can you play music or sound? My system master is at 80%, but my current speakers never go above the 50%. Plenty Loud for me.

As for mixing.....My guess is that it'll split the back channel evenly between the L&R rears.
 
For $400-500, I would reccomend getting a refurb Onkyo TXSR500 or TXSR501 from ecost.com, and a set of refurb Rocket Tykes from AV123.com. At this price point, you should really consider Standard audio gear, rather than dedicated computer speakers. Your money will go towards gear with better flexability in the future, and they will sound about the same, if not better.
