Hi,
I'm strongly considering replacing my Logitech Z560s - they have been very good speakers for the price, but are way too boomy. (Yes, I turn the bass down in the advanced audio control panel) - but the setup is definitely still inherently Bass heavy.

I was looking at the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultras, but was wondering if they have a Ultra version of their 2.1 speakers?
Thanks.

i always figured that the "ultra" just stood for 5.1. they have klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers on newegg that look exactly the same as the "ultras", i don't know what the difference would be.

The Promedia Ultras are actually just an updated version of their original 5.1 promedia's. They no longer sell the old 5.1's, but all the old promedia products remained the same (2.1, 4.1, 4.2).

There are only slight design differences between the Ultras and the old promedia's, mainly in the control pod (much much better in the Ultras) and in the sub design.

It would be nice to have an updated control pod and sub in a 2.1 system :)

May hold off a bit and end up getting the 5.1 Ultras. The room that the computer is in is not exactly condusive to >2.1 setup.

Another question on a related note: Did you guys upgrade the stock speaker wire - and if so, did you notice a difference in audio quality? I'm thinking about doing this w/ the 560s - but not sure if it would be worth the cost at this point.

I have a very personal view on this. I thought it might make a difference, and I had the money to spend to find out, so I've bought the monster cable upgrade for both my old 2.1's and my old promedia 5.1's, but I hooked up my current Ultras using the stock speaker wire. It really makes no perceptible difference. Klipsch would not include the stock speaker wire if it was inferior in the first place.

None of the multimedia systems handle enough power to make a larger wire necessary, and the monster cable makes it even MORE of a pain in the ass to set up the system.

So save your money and just use the stock wire. But DO get the Ultras :D
