Hey guys.. im looking into buying a projector, and i dont know that much about them.

well i know enough..but i dont know how much of a difference between 2000 lumens and 1000 lumens is

and not sure how much of a noticable difference there is between 800x600 native and 1024x768 native

anyway

im looking for a projector under $800 that does 720p and does 4:3 and 16:9 and not too long of a throw, the projector can be anywhere from 6 feet to like 12 feet away and im looking for about a 100" screen.

If you guys can help me out that would be awesome

Thanks

I have a Home theater FP, it really depends on what you want to do with your projector. Give us some more details.

Solely connected to a PC? Gaming on it? Console? DVD's?

There are ALOT of things to take into account with an FP, such as you need a DARK room, very little Ambient light.

Either an infocus SP 5000 or Sanyo PLV-Z2 go for around $1,000.00

both are worth the extra $200

if u want 720p then ur gonna need one with a native resolution of 1024x768

not 1024 x 768, thats called an "xga projector", "720P" projectors are 1280 x 720 ;)

OP hit up froogle (or ebay) for infocus sp5000 and sanyo Z2 merchants, personally i had to make that choice recently and it was fairly easy, i chose the Z2 ;). The Z2's are discontinued and disappearing really fast so don't sit on it too long, you can find the last merchants on ebay and froogle though.

The sp5000 is normally $1300~$1500 but B&H is currently running a $300 rebate special which lowers their price down to $999. It was generally agreed at AVS that the sp5000 was more of a gaming projector due to it's higher lumens and rez, and wasn't "as good" with movie watching compared to other projectors in its pricerange.

The avs forums has a lot more info on both projectors if you're interested.
