Projector vs lcd tv

Hi guys I am looking to buy myself a Christmas gift and would like the input of you fine sirs.

I am looking in price range from 500 - 1000$ for a projector or tv but cant decide what one to get.

Right now I am using a old non digital 32 inch tv that cant get any hd channels and is annoying me.

I foresee myself getting a ps3 down the road, I am a big gamer but mainly on pc where I have a 22 inch monitor.

My roommate had a Infocus IN72 and I thought it did a fine job for video / games and was 900 Lumens, brightness wasnt a issue when blocking out light with curtains.

Since the market is filled with tons of deals etc I don't know what to do I am torn between 2 worlds.

In my opinion, once you get a nice projector setup, you will never want to watch your regular tv again.

Currently the best overall afordable projector on the market is the Panasonic AE4000
Which has received great reviews.
However it is $1000 over your budget.

You can find some projectors at the $1000 level, however its highly recommended to buy the $2000 panasonic which is overall the best bang for your buck.
