Welcome to my vision of the WoodWallPC - WWP.
Pretty much text but i need your help, so pleease take your time to read it.
First, excuse my simple blueprint, i´m not a engineer. The scale is pretty damm bad. I´m posting here to get all the possible feedback before i start my project in a few weeks. First off, i havent done any woodwork since i was about 13 years old (i´m 19 now), but i know how to build a PC pretty well, though i haven´t ever tried to build one on wood.
My budget is pretty much zero, so i will get the cheapest parts i can find. I was thinking of a cheap used 15inch TFT, but if i find any 17inch i will go for that. For the computer specs maybe a P3 900Mhz or so, 256MB ram and a small harddrive. Anything cheap really.
Now lets explain my vision.
I will build a PC almost competely out of wood, not sure what kind but anything that looks nice and exclusive. It will be as small as possible (but pretty big since i have to build an ordinary computer on the back) and it will have frames on the sides, kinda like a box
The point is that this WWP will hang on the wall to be a kind of imageveiwer/musicvideoveiwer and cheap musiccenter.
Then i will chopp up a TFT and put it in a hole, as you can see on the image. I will also place 2 speakers and connect them to the soundcard of the computer, not sure what kind i will use or how it will work. On the back i will build up my cheapo computer and connect it directly to the TFT.
The idea is that no keyboard or mouse will be connected or visible. Everything will be remotecontrolled from my real PC (which is pretty fucking PHAT!) with a W-lan card. It will be most of all a nice piece of furniture, and a showoff for my friends...
Lets explain the arrows with numbers:
1. The piece of wood wich is the basic for the build.
2. Speakers, some sort of cheap not so super kinda stuff.
3. My TFT, cheapo. with a frame of polished aliminium.
4. Back of TFT.
5. All the ports, mouse, keyboard usb and so on...
Then of course i will have to put a slot-in cd drive somewhere.
Now some direct questions.
What kind of wood do you recomend that is nice but not soooo expensive?
How exaktly shall i build the PC on the back to get it to work properly? Can i place the motherboard directly on the wood, with a space in between of course. Can i have the harddrives verticaly? And has anyone got a guide on how you dismatle a TFT? What kind of isolation should i use between the screen and the edges of the wood?
I think my dad has all the neccesary tools for the job, plus some skills in both electronics and woodworking.
Anything else you come up with will be greatly appriciated.
Last, sorry for my english, not perfect i know. And please don´t say it is impossible to do without the right skills, i have to do this, can´t get it out of my head.
If something is unclear, please post and let me answer.
