So after lurking around this awesome forum for the past year or so, I decided to sign up. And for my first thread I think a worklog is in order because I have this old emachines cases just sitting in my room. This project will take place over the duration from now to whenever its done. Seeing as no job and not many tools, being thirteen is not fun at times, this project is going to take a bit. I still don't know what I'm going to use this computer for when its done but I'll think of that throughout the worklog.

Goals for this project:
To get experience working with computers and modding cases
to customize a case for myself.
Put a crapload of storage in it. (actually 500gb x2)
to be able to store music on it and access it through my network.
(I have a feeling this is going to become a server/web surfer)
for this to be my first computer That I built.(with help of my dad)
a couple questions for more experienced builders though:
-do all motherboards use the same stand off layout?
-I lost my little power switch thing that connects to the mobo, well it broke actually. where could I find another switch?
The "visual" goals
I want a distressed look on the front so I painted the front panels a while back when this was my main computer. So I sanded it with a 320grit and I Kind of like how it looks but I highly doubt its going to stay that way.
I also want the chassis of the case to be painted black, so since my dad paints cars for a living, I'm going to ask him if he can take it to the shop and paint it "professionally".
