So this is a start of a new project log making my smallest gaming PC to date. You can see my other worklogs here, here, and here. I am just tired of lugging the huge boxes around for a few hours of lan partying once a week. This box will be fine for gaming at 1280x1024 which is what monitor I have access to over at my friends that I game on.

So here are the parts:

J&W Minix 780g Mini-ITX MB - still shipping to me should have it next week thanks to mad3d
2x2gb SO-Dimm Memory - again shipping from mad3d
Silverstone NT07 AM2 - Again shipipng from mad3d
Apex MI-100 - will be modded for extra cooling and better looks.
Zotac 9800GT 512mb
Seasonic 350watt SFX PSU - this little bruiser as Dual 18amp 12v Rails!!
AMD 4850e 45w 2.5 GHZ Dual core CPU.

I have yet to decide what hard drive and optical drive too use.

As you can see the video card fits in pretty tight. but there is room to spare really. Probably going to window mod this side of the chassis with an intake and exhuast for the video card.

Low power draw with but will still perform quite well.

And this little baby will make it all come together. Dual 18amp 12V rails!! :eek:
 
looks good, i want that board also.... that card... why not go with the low profile version
 
I have pretty much the exact same setup, with a crappier video card, and a modified case, it's in the SFF gallery subforum...

I wanna see what you figure out for airflow with that PSU, it completely blocks my NT-07...
 
Well recieved the parts from mad3d and the motherboard will not post. cleared the bios, tried new proc new ram, different psu. put my proc, psu and some ram into different board and it is fine. cannot get any beeps from the J&W.

Anyone else have anything I didn't try to get this board posting?

This sucks, talking with mad3d about what we can do to replace the board.
 
Loosen the screws a bit on the Silverstone NT07 mount and see if it posts. Sounds funny, I know. But give it a try.
 
i had put the regular heatsink fan back on. tried a singlecore am2 cpu with same results.
 
Hm. You obviously have plenty of power, so I don't think it's that. And you've tried other CPU's. I hate to say it, but it's gotta be the board at this point.

I have the same board, and I dropped a 5050e on it right out of the box with the same Silverstone HSF with a 120w PSU and it's rock-solid. Only issue I had was the HSF's tightness made it hang at boot until I loosened the screws a tad. After that it was perfect.
 
So while waiting for the motherboard situation to become clearer. have been working on how to solve the clearance issues with that super deep PSU.

Here is what I have come up with.

The front will be replaced with 2 pieces of 1/8th aluminum and a singl peice of 3/4 clear acrylic lit with LEDs. the drive will then be stealthed and slid forward about 7/8th of an inch to clear the cables from the PSU. This will also allow me to mount 3 60mm fans for intake.

If anyone knows where I can get some Orange LED fans or Orange bladed fans let me know.

Here is a shot showing the side windows that will be in both sides. I will have to do an awesome job on the cabling to make it very clean inside.

Don't put plastic on the sides, use mesh of some sort, you'll need the airflow, even with the fans on the front.
 
the side windows will be waterjet cut plastic with many openings and possibly a fan mount on the processor side of the chassis.
 
Subscribing because this certainly has my interest piqued.
 
This looks like a start of a promising project.
Should have bought a HD4850 so you can say you have dual 4850's :p:D
 
Get rid of that full-size DVD drive and go slimline! You'll get much better room/airflow.

I am not dropping $300 bucks on a slimline blueray drive. but you are right would get much more room inside.

So the dead board is on its way back to mad3d. no hard feelings there he tried to work it out for RMA but I just got tired of waiting.

Ordered one of these, and will probably get a e8200, or possibly an e8400, to put in it. And I already have some Ballistix Tracer 1066 to put in it.
 
Well got the new Zotac board in and it is pretty. 16x PCIe 2.0, and wifi already on the baord.

Messing around with a Silverstone NT01-e heatsink unit I picked up. it would work in this system If I can place the PSU at the front of the case under the optical drive. would keep me from having to build a all new front. but I do love the Idea of the new front peices. looks much cleaner then stock. Also it may be possible to fit this unit in rotated 90 degrees facing the side of the case with 2 thin 60mm fans on it. would probably still provide enough cooling for a 65nm processor. and I could place the PSU in its normal position. I will have to look into that placement on sunday.

The side of the PSU'd probably block airflow, you could probably take off the shroud thing and run it passive, what with the vent in that side of the case...

I'm looking at cutting a hole in the cover of my PSU and putting a really quiet 92mm fan I have sitting around on it, and removing the fan and shroud on the NT-07, so the new PSU fan pulls the air over that and exhausts it...
 
well I have been looking at the 90degrees from pictured posistion and I will be able to get .45 inches of clearance between the PSU and the fins on the radiator and 2 10mm x 60mm fans exhausting right out the side of the case. I will have to move the PSU over up against the frame next to the video card but shouldnt be a big deal. This weekend I will be working on that.

I wish I could get 2 5870s in a SFF case.. im sick of mid tower and would like to go smaller.
