This has been done before, but here is my attempt!

Thanks to my friend George who donated the NES :)

The idea is simple enough! To put a media center in the case of an old NES

So off we go...

Needs a clean...

Half clean

What a difference!

Dismantled

First clean up job not good enough.. too much dirt in the corners! take 2...

Motherboard for the build...

Lefty?

or Righty?

Red LED? No thank you! Time for a blue one

New LED fits and the original (lower) is still there for now...

New Blue LED all soldered into the PCB

It Works!

Very Blue!

Top view

Dremel time....

Toooo much cutting later...

First test... It turns on!

USB ports in the front

Making super short internal USB connectors

USB all sorted

Looking good so far

Time to give it some audio connectors

Cut up!

They should go here...

Sorted

SSD fits nicely in here

Like a Glove

Time to install Windows!

Now i'm just waiting for other parts like the mini PSU.

I have a quite original idea for the game flap too!

Any comments / suggestions are more than welcome!

Awesome idea. I love seeing people re-use classic stuff. Subscribed. =)

Thanks. I have been meaning to do this for a few years but only just had the time!

Fun project! Are you going to do some NES emulator with it as well?

I don't have so much time for gaming, but I'm sure it will come in useful at a party :)

Thinking of doing this myself, got an old NES here too, what did you use to clean yours? Anything special?

What hardware you using in this? GPU at all?

Any more pics?

Can't wait to do this myself

Well if he don't come back when I finish my mission in Ft McCoy I'll try a rough run at this stuff, should be around end of June. I've got a NES case and mobo and ram and HDD and heatsink, just need a CPU, GPU, and some tiny ass PSU lol

I'm thinking if I get a quad for my gamer I'll put the i3 in the NES, solves the GPU/CPU issue quick

Anyone know if having a 6670 would improve emulation (PS2 and below) vs the intel hd3000 on an i3 2125?

Just an update, I'll be starting my own thread next month (after the 15th, before the 30th) since this guy seems to have given up. Anyways, here's what I have so far

Yet to decide if the GPU is going in or not. It should make a decent PS2 and below emulator box based on other lower power systems, and should also game most things well at medium/high settings on my projector as well from the reviews, but I doubt It'll ever acutally play PC games, just make a nice piece in my theater room and if I ever need a second gamer rig somewhere it will have a unique factor to it lol. Maybe even take it to a LAN party if I can get a cheapo 15-19" LCD lol

But for now, It's going to be my emulation box and HTPC (mostly emulation). Also, I'm not sure if I want to bother with WiFi yet but I'm open to suggestions lol

Hopefully I'll be able to live up to other people's expectations lol, don't wanna let you down as this has been a goal of mine for some time now

One thing is for sure, if it works I'll have one of the most beastly NES's on the planet lol
