Now here is my first mod. I have been looking at guides, worklogs and case mod gallery, to finally jump in the modding universe.

I will mod a Aopen HQ08 that I have acquired at Infonec Computers. And here is the case.

I wil try to transform this bare case into to this.

Front of case will have from top to bottom
- DVD drive
- 3 40mm fan duct
- 4 x 20 LCD display
- PWM Fan controller for 5 fans
- Power button
- SKULL cut-out
- 120mm fan duct

Top of the case is not a blowhole. It will be some kind off laser beam made of red leds.

On left side I will be cutting out a big half skull with my friend The Dremel.

And for the right side I do not have any ideas for the moment but I'm open for any suggestions.

Get to work quick! That case, the way it is, is making me sick. Deface it! At least scratch it! LOL!

Keep the pics a posting

Steven

Today I have made my skull template and completed my dremel cut out of the skull on side panel.

I printed this skull and made the cutting with a raser blade took me about an 1 hour I was then ready to trace ou the skull on the side panel.

Sorry for the bad pic quality.

And here is the result of a couple of hours of dremel cuting and major dust.

You can see the frame of the in the skull that will be cutted out.

Tomorrow I will make the 120mm fan duct.

Thank you for your replies

Nucking FICE!!!

The inside of case is very cheapo. P4 1.7 400FSB, ATI 9200 and 2 x 80 gig WD. But I'm thinking of buying during this summer an AMD.

Thanx for your comments

Just completes my fan duct here are my results

First started with mesurement

And after some dremel and bad plastic smell this is what it looks like

I then applied some bondo to the fan duct and drive bays as well

Here the sanded bondo

More bondo

Next wil be the 2 fan duct the LCD cut out and also the front SKULL bone like cut out.

Thank you for looking my mod in progress

Im not a big fan of skulls but hey thats look pretty good. Great dremel work on the panel

Looks good. Bet it took some time with the Dremel, & quite a few cutting disks.

At first look I was wondering what you plan to do about the eye in the skull. What is going
to replace that clamp? You going to glue the eye to the window?

Got up early this morning and did little things to my mod.

Here I cutted out the two rear blowholes

And the dismentled the hole case.

Once dismentled I cutted the plate where the cd drive and psu rest so when all is mounted you won't see a bar going throught the skull

After all this done I will prime and paint the interior of the case in red and will post the paint results tomorrow.

Finished painting the interior of the case and here is the results, and i'm pretty happy and it was a practice with aerosol paint

thank you all for your replies

Painted MB tray and psu. I primed and painted. Here are some pics.

My nest step will be painting the out side case.

Looking good. Skulls are really cool. May be you could get a hold of a real one and mount it on top with some super bright red LED's in the eye sockets. Now that would be wicked.

Steven

that wouldn't be very original, now would it? keep up the good work on this, the cut out is real nice!

Here's some off my work done on the front case.

I cutted out the SKULL text made off bones letters

I also made the cut for the LCD and the 2 small fan ducts

And applied first coat of primer after some bondo work, sandind more bondo, sanding and first coat primed.

After 30 minutes of drying there where to much bondo bumps and unevenness between the drive bezel and the frame. I wasn't to amazed by my work so decided to completly strip out the 2 fan ducts and lcd window.

All of that remove made some minor touch up.

I'm thinking of replacing it with some mesh or plexi I dunno. If you have any suggestion please feel free to help a fellow modder in is creation. Oh and the 120mm fan duct and skull cut out are staying the are perfect.

Thanks.

Today I've primed the 2 side panels and the top and applied the first coat of paint.

Skull side primed

Top primed

I did two coats of primer and between coats did some wet sanding with 400 grit.

Skull side first coat black gloss enamel

Top first coat paint

My paint room.

Now have to wait 3 days to let the paint to dry hard then will wet sand 600 grit and apply a second coat of paint. I'm using this mod how-to for the paint job.

linear1 case mods

Hope that my paint job will turn as good.

Thank you for your interest.

Hi.

Did some work on the front panel yesterday and here are the results

Front mesh will replace the 2 40mm fan duct and LCD. The mesh was cutted with th dremel and to be able to bend the mesh did a cut about 1/3 in the mesh.

Painted mesh and clear coat

The mesh will be fixed on the front panel with rivets in the inside of mesh.

Rivets are not punched in since the front panel is not yet painted.

Thanks for your comment's.

First coat of paint dried and hardened time to wet sand 600 grit. And after a few hours of sanding here are my results of the second coat of paint.

Looks pretty fresh doesn't it.

I think I have done a pretty good job on this. Now have to wait 2 to 3 days before wet sanding again and after applying the clear coat.

And if anyone knows any tricks of how-to's for applying bondo because i'm having some trouble with the front case. Can't get it to a complete flatness.

put on more than you want and sand it flat. dont put on big globs or you have air bubles that will appear as you sand, put on thin layers.

Got some work done on the paint job and the front lcd.

I've sanded the second paint coat with 600 grit. Applied the cleat coat here the results.

I've tested the LCD before getting some work done on it.

And here is the LCD mounted on front.

Next update will be the final on side panels as well as the top. Will wet sand the clear coat
and apply the compound. Update will come in 2 or days to let the clear coat dry.

you say this is your first mod. you must have experience in some other thing. you dremel like a veteran and your bondo wokr is most exelent

I love the use of the word "fresh". How old school it that lol.

Nice work dude. Keep it up.

very clean dremel work, nice. good job with the paint, too.

the black knight always triumphs!

I've completed the wet sanding of the top and skull side here are some cliché of my work.

When applying the compound I was becoming more and more excited.

And another shot

Tomorrow I'll post some pics of my front case.

Thanks for your comments

Hi all I've installed the plexi on the skull side and glued on the eye. I also primed the front case. Here are a few shots.

This is the top of the case.

Here you can see the front case primed will paint it tomorrow.

Don't be shy post your comments. Thanks

Next thing that I have in mind to do is cable management, self made fan rheobus, new dvd drive eject button as well as power button and a top light array that will point to the sealing batman style but with a SKULL and it will be made of red leds.
