Project: MDPC WannaBe

Close, I live in Greenwood. Sweet! I've always wondered if there were any people on here in Indiana. We should start setting up LAN parties in this area!

-Tad

That would indeed be fun, however I must warn you I haven't played but two computer games since Comand and Conquer 98 came out. My fingers are not fast enough to do all the keyboard stuff. I am a Xbox and Wii kinda guy.

Eh, I think going from console to PC would be pretty easy, but I've never done it. The only console I've owned in the past 8 years is a Wii. I like it, but only for family games.

(waves at Kenjiwing)

My wife's family lives in southern Indiana and Kentucky, so we drive through Louisville quite a bit. Small world!

thaddeus

How come these projects take forever to complete?

No offense to you, cause im still working on mine! :)

lol, none taken. I hear ya on that one! It has taken long for me because I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with my project while doing the project, so I add things to my list of things I want to do. Also, I have a full-time job, I'm a student, and a wife and kid. The only time I get to work on this is before work if I can get myself up at 4 am. I bet many modders are in the same situation. Real life always takes priority though.

-Tad

And I'm back with a small update!

I have some IandH stealth res holders on order, along with a silver KillCoil. The KillCoil is on backorder though, but I should get the holders this week!

I've done a little bit of work. With school, work, wife, and baby girl it is hard to find time. I do what I can though.
I decided to do away with the internal DVD-ROM drive in favor of a slim external enclosure with a slot load drive in it. I'm going to sleeve the cables and try to make it look like a detached extension to my build. I think it'll look good.

Naked GPU!!!

I need to buy an extra slot cover:

So, I'm still waiting on the KillCoil, res clamps, and an EK DDC Rev. Top (order on the first of this month... must be the snow). I'm putting the motherboard in now for a test fit and I might start cutting tubes. I also need to sleeve the fans, and flush the radiator. I might do what fhantastic did and put some MDPC SATA sleeving in my res. I think it looks cool!

Until next time, thanks for watching!

Thaddeaus......... I still needs to finish mine too, lol

Anyways man, I love this, its looken awesome!

Great project Ted, it is amazing! Congratulations.

BTW: Do you will use the drive racks(cage,plate,trails...) that come with the V1000Z? if no, do you want to sell it?

Thanks for Freaky and JLion!

@JLion: Sorry, but I gave one to shawnoen, and I broke the other trying to remove it.

Moar pics!

Probably my favorite shot:

I've started using a tripod and it makes a huge difference. Now I think I'm getting too much light!

As you can see, the tube routing is going to be a pain! Any suggestions on routing? The CPU block and RAM block are the only blocks missing from the loop. I have two options for the pump/res. The first is what is shown here. The second is using some UN 120 brackets and my iandh rad clamps to mount the rad and pump out of the way of everything else. I think option two my be best, but we'll see. Oh, and tube color will be black filled with distilled water and silver ions from a killcoil and two True Silver BP fittings.

Thats all for now. Again, tube routing suggestions will be appreciated!

-TadZilla

from what i can see the pipe route should be easy
pump to bottom rad
bottom rad to top rad
top rad to memory block
memory block to CPU
CPU to the top block
top block to the left block
left block to north bridge block
north bridge to top gpu
top gpu to bottom gpu
bottom gpu to the res

you could put a rad on the back of the case and join this in between the left block and the north bridge.
sorry i wasn't looking up each part of the motherboard to get exact names for the water blocks

Thanks for the suggestion! If I keep the pump/res where it is then this will probably be the way I route the tubing. I thought about adding a rad to the back, but I want an all internal solution, and adding a 120 rad to the back internally might make it too crowded. I might try it tomorrow though.

Just got my res clamps at work! Bad iPhone pics though...

Its a Rolo holder...

-TadZilla

i would use L joints instead of the straight stand off on the water blocks this would also allow for cleaner piping and less of it and no needs for large loops of pipe

it is a shame the psu is so big or you could of got 2 rads there one the left side of case and the other on the right side under the bottom plate maybe the pump and res also.

Thaddeus, im must appoligize, I was one who thought that the cooler master wasnt as good as the lian li, but while looking at your work(amazing) and seeing that you have to have your mobo hang over the edge not properly attached, i feel as though we who think the lian li is better must apologize for convincing you to stay with it. But non the less beautiful.

No need to appologize TeeJay. I like the Lian-Li better anyways. The motherboard is properly mounted. The hole you see in the corner is not a mounting hole.

-TadZilla

Thanks! I think the GPUs are my favorite part.

TeeJay: When I finish this project I'd be glad to sleeve your power supply (for some reason, that didn't sound right). Just ship the PSU and sleeving to me. The only thing that would scare me is doing a better job on yours than I did on mine, now that I've had practice :)

Higher f-stop and a tripod both make a world of difference!

I have an EK 360 rad and UN rad brackets on the way along with some other little things to help complete the build. The EK is thinner, and the UN brackets take up less space behind the slot covers. This will allow me to mount the rad further toward the front, allowing room to mount the pump/res combo using a UN 120 Z bracket and iandh stealth clamps. I think this will be better for tube routing. If I need to go thinner on the rad, I'll get the swifty.

Loop order:

Res>pump>rad>top mosfet>side mosfet>cpu>ram>chipset>gpu>gpu>res

-TadZilla

the dreaded loop from CPU you mosfets why dose no one use to 90 degree joints here to make a very clean join .
also i would go res>pump>rad>memory>CPU>top mosfet>side mosfet>chip set>gpu>res
were the mosfets join the CPU and other parts instead of the straight stand off use 90 degree ones short peace of pipe very very clean look

i also have an idea how to get to large rads in that case
by the looks of it the 5.25 cage is not doing alot apart from holding the drive covers in place

I'm trying to limit the number of 90 degree fittings to keep flow up. I might, however, use 45 degree fittings.

I'll keep that loop order in mind, too. I have enough tubing to try a couple of routes.

-TadZilla

the 90 degree fittings wont bother the flow in away slow flow more heat conducted.
the order i said just allowes for less pipe and cleaner look plus if you was access it is alot easyer

Thanks guys!

Small update...

Meet... um... I don't have a name for him yet, but he is my new mascot!

Just some pics of new products. I'll try getting some photos of the rad installed tomorrow morning, but I can't do much else in concern to watercooling until the new tubing arrives.

4382586585_889571b4ee_b.jpg

I found that my choice of fans does not work well with these rad brackets, as the brackets have nothing to push against when the are bolted into the chassis, causing the rad to sit funny. I'll see what I can come up with, but I might need to go back to the Lian-Li brackets.

Until next time...

Tellz me where you got the Danboard, PLEASE!

Ive been looking to get one for around 6 months now, every site I go to sells out.

Yeah, I couldn't find one until I hit up ebay. I think it is against rules to post a direct link, but just do a search for danbo or danboard. The is a company called wonderonlinestore.

Some more pics:

Tis all I had time for this morning. I should be getting my new tubing and a few other things this week. Thanks all for following my work log!

-TadZilla

I must know where you got the amazon.co.jp mini danboard and how much was he? I must have one!

He must live in Japan, that is where they are being sold. Not available in the US.

He said a few posts up he Hit ebay to find the Danboard.

But on to the real matter at hand...Awesome work being done and some killer liquid cooling goodies in there to boot.

Cant wait to see the finished product!

No no, no living in Japan for me.

Moar pics! It seems that the last several photos I have taken have this nice, red pixel near the bottom center of the pictures. I think I may have fixed it this morning after I took all the photos I wanted to this morning. Could a red pixel be dust on the sensor or mirror? I cleaned the mirror, and both sides of my lens to see if this would clear it up, and it appears to have done the job. However, I won't officially know until I take many more pictures. Hopefully the local camera shop can fix it for me if it is more then just dust. Man, I hope it was just dust :|

Anyways, please ignore the red pixel :(

"So, this is the key to all your rad-mounting-slot-panel-fitting issues, eh?"

"Hmm, something about this does not look right..." (Tadbo is always critizing my work... should've stuck with the monkey)

Ok, I don't know if the danboard is creepy or cute.
It needs laser pointer eyes and a Domo mouth.

Oh wow, that creepy!

Update yet again! I believe I fixed the red pixel issue, but if it is still there and I didn't see it, let me know if you do.

Anyways, Tadbo and I received our (hopefully) final package for this build:

Tubing!

4388050385_2d4ff4de64_b.jpg

"Tad, I think the tube from RAM to chipset needs to be longer..."

4388050669_5f3acb4d78_b.jpg

"Yeah, this one..."

4388814782_0cc98a52cc_b.jpg

Well, we'll look at it later. We have enough tubing to try some things...

4388051647_0f841d469e_b.jpg

Wow, actually had some glare come into the picture... didn't expect that. Anyways, Tadbo is pointing to something not right about the GPU D-Plugs...

4388052171_e0375a8280_b.jpg

"Come closer..."

4388052653_b51f45db78_b.jpg

"A little closer.... STOP!" Yep, the d-plugs are the same size, but what seems longer than the other. Could just be the way the cards are installed. I'll mess with it a little.

4388816948_f701c0772b_b.jpg

"Umm... what is that?" It is part of my draining technique. Malik displayed an excellent way of draining a system in is ongoing worklog...

That's all for now. I'm going to get the pump mounted tomorrow morning hopefully. I really hope I haven't broken anything yet. Watercooling components are so hard to get installed sometimes. I hope all this works.

-TadZilla

looking good the pipe work comming along the southbridge to the gpu looks really good the rout of the other pipe still needs work lol looks like a game of leap frog

Haha, yeah it is like a game of leap frog! I'm trying to keep from crossing the tubing... never cross the streams...err, tubing...

After getting ready for work, I walked down to the computer room to start working on the pump mounting. When I walked in I was scared half-to-death by this!

4389810120_c855b0f130_b.jpg

"Its just me! I installed the pump for you!"

4389042377_b7e0e0ceb8_b.jpg

Woah! Thanks Tadbo! You did a great job! However, I believe two more 45 degree fittings are in order to better connect tubing.

4389042551_8ba973900c_b.jpg

Man, that scratch on the PSU really bugs me! Perhaps I'll remove the stickers since the warranty is already void, and paint the thing.

I need to free Tadbo and go to work.
