I'm not sure what brand they are to be honest, I got them from work when we threw out all the old junk out.

You may want to check around and see if a local automotive body shop can weld it for you. If not, I'd recommend getting a flux core wire welder or gas mig welder over a cheap AC arc welder. It can be very easy to burn straight through thin sheet metal with an arc welder if you don't have very much practice. MIGs are fairly easy to learn, just grab some scrap from cutting up the cases and practice stitch welding... Rapidly toggling the trigger on and off while moving forward to push the weld, keeps the temps down so you don't burn through. Trying to run a continuous bead on the 18 to 20 gauge steel cases are made of is tough, and would probably result in more grinding to get it smooth....

Although I still really like the idea of the gullwing :) Good luck!

I know how to weld :) jsut don't have a welder, kinda odd I suppose, knowing how to weld but not having a welder hehe.

go to an Construction Rental Company. You can rent an Aluminum Welder.

I have to say good job for havig the vision of what you want to do a doing it inspite of the few flames that you are getting for using 2 cases. :)

I like the gullwing idea now that I heard it, but you have talked about get the two pieces connect via welding it to which I have a suggestion.
problem with welding thin metal atleast for me and many others is that is warps the panel even if you do it right. so how do you get two metal panels stuck together and with as much strength as a weld would give it?

Answer: GLUE IT!!! There are products in the modern automotive industry that allow you to connect to pieces of metal with the strength of metal without all the problems welding can bring. I know of two prodcut that will do the trick one is from 3M and the other is called Lord Fuser. you simple clean the metal of all the paint, oil, greese, etc... (grind if off and then use alcohol to clean) and apply the amount suggested.

Some of you may already be saying JB weld has been around for years but I'm telling you this isn't JB weld.

We had a Lord Fuser demo given at the company I worked for:
Professional Welder vs Lord Fuzer.

we welded that metal together and used lord fuzer on the the other and tried to break the bond apart.... the welded piece broke before the lord fuzer did.

it is also available in canada.. I already looked.

Hehheh.... Sorry.. Not that odd though. I don't own a welder either; I do a lot of welding at work.

Good luck aquiring one :)
