Project Mac Cube

Now that the project has been completed I have taken some more shots of the cube in place on my desk as well as a couple of other shots. I've also done two video's one of me removing the components from the cube to show how easy it is and another to show the cool effect of the leds.

First the pictures they are 800x600 shots not thumbnails to allow you to see more detail.

Video 1: Taking it Apart (5.10mb)

Video 2: Blue Leds in action (2.84mb)

That's... beautiful.

One of the most perfect conversions I have ever seen. I never imagined that this could be pulled off so seamlessly. Nice job!

Really well done Gordy, a seamless conversion. I applaude your efforts at retaining the look and feel of that great case. Did you ever figure out how to get that power supply open? Or did you just pass on it?

I've not had a chance to look at it again. I will try it again over the next week or so and see what happens.

I really like what you've done with it. I think the only thing I could add to improve it at all would be to sugjest installing a LED into the slot loading drive... just for a nice glow on the interior of the drive. But even that is purely preference.

Bang up job!

Funny you should say that as I noticed the orange led glowing from the it a couple of days ago and thought mmm that should be blue hehe.

Unfortunatly though I need the drive for some other work and it has to be standard, once thats done I may do some modding :)

Man. Nice job. SFF mods have a place in my heat man =), good job.

Also, props on the Slot Loading Drive, those things are damn fine =D.

What did you do with the guts? :]

You might want to sell them here: www.cubeowner.com
Lots of people looking for cube parts over there. Don't tell them how you came across the spares though... ;) Please let us know how it goes with the power supply.

hehe, but that would spoil the fun ;)

I agree: Job well done. I was wondering if you could elaborate on something for me though? You said that the motherboard was too wide to fit and you had to get rid of some material from the cube. Where exactly did you have to remove material? I was curious because this has me stumped. I was afraid that it would be from the acrylic, but it's obviously not. Just wondering. It's great though.

Hi, basically the motherboard needs to fit into the base of the inner chassis perfectly or it wouldn't go back into the perspex cube part.

If you look at that picture above I had to remove a couple of mm of the steel from the area either side so the motherboard could slide into place like in the following shot

Hope that explains the process.
