Well my computer is a jungle. There are wires everywhere! So this summer vacation, I am going to make my computer cleaner. I'm not doing it for the purpose of making it look better, I want better airflow. So I am going to the home depot tomorrow to get some electrical tape and to see if they can cut a hole in my case because I don't have a dremel. I'm sure if I they'll do it officially, but I'm sure I can pay some dude $10 to drill a hole in it. I'll be posting lovely pictures of my work.

The Before!

Carpet = Static
Static + Computer Components = KABOOM

Not really but I'd stick those ontop of anti-static bags (or inside!) and whatnot...

Well, I'm well grounded and it's not very staticy carpet. I think it should be fine but it's better working with the TV then upstairs in the study with a bunch of fish. I hope I can find someone in the home depot to drill my hole.

WTF? You're taking the case to Home Depot to see if they will drill it? ROFL!! I wish I could be a fly on the wall then.

OMG

I hope I can find someone in the home depot to drill my hole.

Lol

But yeah im sure you can find someone with a holesaw of whatever size and take 5 seconds to bust a hole in the metal and send you home with some sandpaper.

QFT. You never ever put electronics directly on carpet. Single handedly one of the worst things you can do.

How long before we see a "my computer is not stable" thread started by onetwenty8k?

I'm already having that lol. I'll be troubleshooting later after I finish this project.

This Thread Delivers.

In anycase, best of luck to you in cleaning up your case. Perhaps I'll see a pic of it in the "Rate My Cables" Thread eh? Cable cleaning is always an interesting passtime.

Expect another update as I venture to the home depot to drill my hole.

Seriously, just buy a hole saw. It will be a good tool to have around if you ever do any plumbing or electrical work, and will probably save you some money anyway.

And yes, please don't EVER set your stuff on ANY carpet. Find some static bags or something if need be, but any carpet will have static, and that's not what you want.

Anyway, let's see some pics of this wire cleanup! I'm going to have a jungle in my case as well!

Best of luck. :)

I'll be waiting to see this completed :D

And for the record, I stored an old AMD Duron mobo (soldered CPU) on the carpet for like, 3 years, moving it around and everything... Still works and overclocks fine :D.

Probably my dumb luck, but it's not INSTANT HARDWARE DEATH!!!

Nah it's not, I've done the same thing without thinking (stuck a couple $300 GPU's and ram)

It's not instant death, but it is by far one of the worst things you can do... next to wearing wool socks and scooting across your entire floor before picking up a stick of ram from the bottom

Ouch! Always remember to shock yourself! :p

Looking good man, keep it up!

Btw, if you would like to improve airflow, I noticed in the pictures in your first post, you may want to get round IDE cables to replace those old and ugly flat ide cables. also, you may want to invest in a SATA burner instead of ide as this will increase air flow incredibly. They are not expensive either. They cost around $38 and are a great bargin right now. I'm going to be picking up two for my system soon....:)

good luck

I'll have an update in like an hour. I'm almost done, it's been hard but it should come out okay.

looking very good. i want to purchase that case, how do u like it? is it sturdy? good air? oh and u should think about buyin a modular psu, i just did, and it did wonders for my lil x gene mini(sff) i named it momurda. its my gamer name

well, ghetto is actually a compliment to some. :)

Theres nothing wrong with ghetto riging stuff, some people are born in a ghetto place, or just dont have the right parts to do somehting, so you must ghetto rig it. As long as it gets the job done!

I added a little color LED Crab fan over the RAM for bling and cooling. Thanks for all the great comments guys. Typing from my computer now ;)

You should cut and vinyl dye your cables so they're all black, and the right length.

That really helps amazingly.
