Built my first plexi HTPC two years ago. and though it looks good it feels like it could have been better. on to version 2.0

Specs:
Athlon 2200+
1GB ram
2x 120gb maxtors
Shuttle fx41 board
(soon to add tuner and video card)

I went with a sff board and a massive Zalman cooler. I wanted as much power as I could with as little noise as possible, on problem. mounting holes are designed for the ICE cooler. not any other cooler mounting.

the p4 holddowns as the come in the kit:

the new hold downs after I finished with them:

test fitting:

final install. success!!:

making sure the cards clear the heat sink:

laying out the parts on the board (not the final plan):

the above mATX psu later let lose the magic blue smoke.

had to get a new psu. so I went for something a bit smaller in space:

lets build the walls now. took 1/4" plexi and cut to size. fasten to hard surface (this being my router table)

apply heat evenly:

repeat for other side and test fit:

trim to fit not (not this board same size though):

begin work on the I/O panel. wish shuttle would email me a diagram of the back. it would be so much easier...

build a nice looking intake:

thats it for now. more probally next week.

not sure. pictures work for me in both IE and Firefox on two diffrent computers

Must be my bad. Not showing up in FF, but viewable in IE.

Damn! I thought those P4 holddowns were HANDLES at first. Those things are massive!

CPU cooler duct looks awsome. Gonna keep an eye on this one. Nice job.

that looksvery good, the fan duct looks nuce, and also cant you just scan and print out the i/o sheald that came with the mobo to use that as a guide for the plugs

I only got the board. it was a refurbished as is. so I got the board and a invoice.

This looks awesome, I have always like pexli cases. I reall like the cpu cooler, that take talent my friend. Keep it up.

update!!!

yeah been a while. I've been broke. my Blazer is broke more directly. gona cost a ton to fix it.

anyhow.on the way home from seeing Batman Begins my brain kicked in. and I thought of a diffrent way of building the case.

looks a bit slicker and professional. wont be able to work on it more till maybe tuesday after noon. I've decided to make a motherboard tray so that I may pull it apart to upgrade clean it. I've also thought about frosting the inside of the plexi and building a stero meter in to each corner with some smLEDs that I have laying around. should be fun.

Nice case, bro. Glad to see yet another SFF mobo used for something nice and fully custom! The cooler duct you made look suspiciously like the one I made for my GPU on ON3 UP.... Except you made yours first :) Nice work! Shuttle won't give you specs for your board still? Or did you finally find out what you needed to know? Unresponsive manufacturers suck

well I had some free time today and figured I would work a bit more on the case. actually meant to start about 2pm but actually started about 4:30. anyhow. onwards

cut I/O port opening and made it flush with inside of the case.

after much cutting and filling and sanding. and more filling and more sanding. I was able to pop in the I/O cover in. tight fit.

also cut the orginal front/sides down to fit inside the front/top/bottom.

test fit from the front

thats it for today. might work on it a bit more thisweekend or next week.

Nice looking mod, those are some well done bends. What'd you use for a heat source? Blowtorch?

update!! havent done one of these in a while.

mostly just added the side intake, agp/pci opening, power supply cut outs, and the exhaust fan.

did pick up a 160gb harddrive for $60 out the door at officemax. ahhh the joys of knowing the loop holes. might do some more work on it tomorrow

last picture is the feet for the case. found some rubber mounts in my closet. not a clue what the goto

so I bit the bullet and made myself a nice looking button.

first I had to cut and file a hole for said button

then I had to make up a template for the button. cad worked great for this quick and dirty sketch

hour or so later and a mild burn on my thumb from the dremel the button is done

used a 3/8" peice of plexi for the button. that way it sticks out a little bit from the case it self
