Alright a little background on the machine i'm modding.

My friend had a 2002 Gateway, P4 1.8ghz 128mb of ram, well i mean for free, what the hell, i took it.

Took me awhile to get stuff working, video card was bad, Geforce 2 MX200 AGP, i put a GeForce 5500 in AGP, and 512mb of ram that ihad laying around that is same speed, forgot the speed but i'll psot it later, I'm installing XP on it right now, came with Millenium, oh the days if windows ME, But its takin about an hour and a half to do it , cause of the speed of it, its got a 20GB HARDIVE!!! :D upgrading it to 80gb ide when i get around to buying one.

I'll be upgrading the processer and the Video card.

But what should i do? the case is soo plain..

Why Mod It!!!

This computer will be my new server for lan parties, also my downloading computer.i'm going to be wither be modding the case its in or modding a new cheap case, i'll post pictures later when everything is finished.

Any suggestions, feel free to speak up.

One thing I have thought about doing with gaming servers is:

1. Find a way to mount a wireless router or switch on the side/top of the case.

2. Route the main network cable (the one that goes to the router, to share the network) down through the case and out one of the back plates.

3. Route the connection that goes to the server from the router in the same fashion as the main network cable.

There, you now have your network anywhere you go! Well, anywhere theres an internet connection. Ima do that with my clan's server...

To be a worklog, you need pictures of your case as well as the mods you are doing to it..

ive got a couple of these gateway cases(bought from a school)im thinking about modding one for my home server, btw these have 120mm fan mounting front and rear, ill be watching to see what you come up with.

I'm hoping to start cutting today, i plan on cutting the window on the side, also i'm cutting a cable hole for my router that i am mounting on the top, then that will run thru the back, and there will be the plugs on the back where they plug in and then the other cord plugs in on the inside and runs to the router.

I did notice about those 120mm fan mounts i really like that! although i did not have any fans in it except for the cpu fan, i did put a 80mm fan in it, no 120mm around all in my main rig.

I'll drill some holes in the top of the case for the screws for the router, and i'm gunna try and find a 300watt power supply it only has a 200 in it.

Check back later tonite i will have pictures up and some progress done.

Gotta get going, I'm in school.

What does not qualify as a work log:

Finished projects. These should be posted in the Gallery.

Project plans like "this is an idea I have". Feel free to post those in the Case Modding forum. If later it turns into an actuall project then you can post your worklog here.

General guidelines:

The first post in the worklog must contain images.

Worklogs should be computer related...

Worklogs should have pictures posted, not just links to external sites.

PLEASE move this into "Case & Case Modding".

When you're ready to start with pics and a worklog, start a new one here.

excuse me, also i am startign on it in like 3 hours when i'm done with school.
Read the rules for this worklog forum by a moderator, "The first post in the worklog must contain images". If you're starting it in three hours, why not post then instead of without a first post photo? We all try to abide by the rules here to make it fun for everyone.

At any rate, this sounds like a fun mod. :) It's always nice to make use of older hardware. As for the HDD, might as well go to a 160 or 250GB. There's not much value is saving a few bucks between an 80GB and a 160GB these days.

yeah, unfortunetly i was hoping to have the entire side panel cut today, but my jig saw took a poop on me, blade came off and i can't find it anywhere... and i can't find my dremel that my dad used so i guess i'm on hold, i got part way thru cutting..

Sure, photos of the dead jigsaw, lol. Any photos. The idea of a worklog is to make a text and photo record of your work progress each step of the way, not after it's complete. :)

I took a bunch of pictures but i didn't upload them last nite -.- ma wanted both of my computers off she caught that my gateway was on rofl.. so i didn't get to upload them

I'm just going to lock this and as soon as you get pictures, feel free to start a new one. That way the worklog won't have a lot of complaints in it as well.
