Alright guys, This will be my first attempt at a full blown Mod, so we'll see how things go.

As I'm sure you've guessed, I have a fondness for the caped crusader, the Tim Burton style to be specific. It was one of the first movies I can remember watching on the big screen and has been up on the top 5 list ever since.

This won't be a from scratch build as I already have a fairly decent computer, more of a work with what I've got type project. I've got a lot of ideas and a couple of parts on order already.

Now I know there have been some awsome Batman mods done in the past, and I don't plan on out doing them, (case in point Batman Begins)but I do promise to give it my best shot and hopefully won't disapoint any hardcore fans out there.

Will update soon with pics and info on what I'll be starting out with.

(Please let me know if the title Project Dark Knight has been previously claimed and any suggestions on what to replace it with if it has)

Thanks,
PMan

Update: This is what I'll be starting out with, I'll hopefully get to sand and paint the case tomorrow.

Some good news, My wife will be going to the beach this weekend (including monday) so I'll have plenty of time to get some pics up and some of my ideas down. ;)

To get started here are the specs of my computer so far.

Case: Ultra UV Wizard (it was free so no complants) Black not blue like the linkcase

Motherboard: EPoX EP-9NPA3ULTRA (Blue LEDs I'll have to work around or disable)motherboard

PSU: Ultra X2 Connect (probably will get replaced, I hate the hard non bendable cables, plus their blue UV which is not gonna work, and the PSU is chrome came with the case)

CPU: AMD 3000+

Memory: 512x2 Corsair XMS

Vid: Connect 3D ATI x1900xt

Hard Drive: Segate 320gb SATA II

I've got a couple of sheets of yellow transparent PlexiGlass on order, so I'm assuming you know the color scheme I'll be using here, Still deciding on whether or not to water cool.

Sorry just read the WorkLog Guidelines, probably should have done that first, anyway I'll edit the first post tonight with pics so don't kill the thread.

Ok, Today I got the case broken down, sanded and painted now the images look a little brown from the lighting I guess but it is a nice flat black.

actually yes, i've just been so busy at work and just got back from vacation this week, i haven't had a chance to post anything. Will post by the weekend.

I think you need to first mod that pink carpet heh ;) all kidding aside I'm looking forward to this, especially if you keep that dark gothic burton feel to it.. good luck

Ah yes I whole heartedly agree. We just moved in about a year ago and just haven't gotten around to it yet. It was a really old woman that lived there before us and she apparently had older people taste.

Anyway maybe if i can stop spending so much money on computer stuff i can replace the carpet. But as hard as it is to believe i've actually grown quite unaware of it.

Ooo, nice find solarfall. not sure about the mesh but definitly a great idea starter. I hope you guys aren't too impatient because things of this nature can be quite slow for me as i tend to put alot more thought then action into things like this. I've got the window done as well as a bat-symbol to go on it and will be posting pics this weekend.

I was thinking about doing something with the batmobile shields on the front of the case and the Mesh mod might be a step in the right direction for that. Keep the ideas coming as this is most certianly a work in progress.

Also an update on the forseen problem with the blue leds on the motherboard.

solution: fry the motherboard and replace it with a new motherboard that has no leds and a better suited dark blue PCB instead of the dreaded green PCB.

although not intentional it does do the trick. :D

Or sell the board on the FS forums and give me the profit >_>

:p

1. Fry ugly motherboard.
2. ???
3. Profit!

:D

Seriously, you've got some nice ideas. I'll be watching this one(Batman pwns!).

Alright here's the pics of the Yellow Plexi installed and the totally freehand Bat-Symbol I cut from the bottom of an old baking sheet. I think the flat black hex head thumb screws give it a nice industrial feel like that of Gotham.

Next up is the front cover. and some sort of back lighting for the inside of the case (you can't see the batsymbol unless you really get up on top of it, it only shows up in the pics becuase of the flash).

Hey man, that looks pretty neat. Personally, I'm not to crazy about the yellow side window. However, i guess it fits the batman theme. Keep up the good work, i look forward to seeing more in the future.

I have the exact same case, and I'm doing some mods to it right now. One of the best things I ever did to it was taking all the components out of it, masking off the factory-painted sides, and spray-painting the inside of it a flat black. I also cut a larger hole in the back for a 120mm fan and widened the front intake fan hole for another 120mm and put a turbine-style hole in the front bezel. But trust me, trying to make a good-looking circular hole in that bezel really sucks.

Keep up the good work, I'm really interested to see what you do with this case.

I found a batman mask from a local party/costume store, it's just the half face mask with an elastic band, it's a child size so it's small enough to work in with the case. I'm not sure what to do with it though or even if i should do anything with it. I'll post some pics of it tonight and some of the ideas I've thought of so far with it so you guys can let me know what you think.

Roger that, one of my first thoughts was to mold the mask into the front of the case on the drive bay door. the sides of the mask fit perfectly into the vertical grooves of the venting on the door. I'm gonna go by Home Depot on the way home from work and pick up some metal wire conduit for power supply wires, if it looks good i may just keep the power supply I've got. give em a coat of flat black and there'll be some sure Gothamage goin' on inside the case.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest about the mask, and the conduit idea sounds awesome. Very industrial, very urban. A little off-topic, but I want to know what you think of your X-Connect. I'm using the same one, or close to it, and the fans in mine are pretty loud. I really like the uv cables, and don't want to give them up, so I'm thinking about trying to replace the fans.

I really hate the stiffness of the cables. the modular design is great and will from now on only own modular power supplies. The fans don't really bother me but then agian i've got a radeon x1900xt which is like a freakin vaccum cleaner in the case. I like the fact that the inside fan is on the bottom (which most powersupplies have now) instead of pulling air from the backs of the optical drives. It probably wouldn't be to hard to replace the fans although i would have say, which i'm sure you know, be care with an open powersupply. You could even replace with UV Fans and solder them into the power board if you're really looking for a fun mod. ;)

Oh Lawd. Is that the Ultra X connect I see?

Heh, yeah stiff cables suck. Luckily, there's NORMAL cables and connector under those fat unflexable bastards.

Seriously, you can cut the rubber tubing off with an Xacto knife, remove all the shielding, and remove the little cable boots (yeah, hit the connector REALLY hard on something made of rock, and CRACK it open with pliars... Like you would a crab claw at Red Lobster... mmmm).

Then, use some vinyl dye to dye them black, cover them in yellow sleeving, then black sleeving, and you'll have an awesome batman themed wire management scheme!

**EDIT** God, did I really spell "Batman" bat-man? sigh. I guess I'm to young for this thread.

I really like my Xconnect :). The problem with the fans is that they're crappy, and run at 6v... I replaced mine with some really nice Scythe 80mm fans, that I got from jab-tech. They dont "grind" or "click" at 6v and are quiter at 12v than the original ones were at 6. They also push more air.

The fans use a 2 pin connector, so you can cut it off the old fans, and add them to the new fans, a little cable doctoring, maybe some soldering, is in order.

Thanks Arcygenical for the idea on the cable sleaving with yellow and black, I was thinking of doing just the UV yellow but was afriad it would be way to much *bling* for an honest Gotham look but the black over top may just work. I was also thinking of doing the flexable metal conduit they use for exiting a breaker box or turning cable runs, and giving it a black spray down. I think the stiffness of the cables may help in using the later because i'd rather have it abit caotic, maybe even a stressed look for the conduit. Anyway that's all for later, now is what to do with this mask because the more I look it over the more I really want to incorporate it.

Of course I'd blend it in to the door so it looked seemless, do away with the "vents". just don't know what to do to the bottom half of the front because it just looks really top heavy with just the mask.

let me know what you guys think

Yeah some of the wire sleeve isn't... totally sleevish... IE it's more of a loose weave.

Wow, that mask fits perfectly. If you put some yellow eyes on there or something, maybe some LEDs behind them acting as the IDE activity lights, that would be awesome.

As for the bottom, if you really want to go extreme and put lots of holes in the case:

Perhaps you could use a red or yellow LED fan there and make it look like the jet intake on the front of the Batmobile.

Just throwing out ideas...

EDIT: That's not done, btw. I still need to paint it...

Oh man i really do like the intake idea, like a turbine prop for the front fan and make it totally open with no grill gaurds or anything.

Nice I think that's the route i'm gonna take. Thanks for the idea Shiny

GoldenFrog that would be awesome but I'm not sure I could pull something like that of, I mean alittle putty to blend the mask is one thing, but contructing a cave entrance is a Qtip Thing if you know what I mean. ;)

Glad you liked it. I'll post a detailed how-to later, but for now... well, I think I've procrastinated enough on this research paper.

you might be able to go to home depot or lowes and get some kinda of pipe adapter that looks like a cone and crave some grooves in it to look like the exhaust on the bat mobile

Nice find goldenfrog, and yes it will most definitly look like the intake in my first post when i'm finished with it.

yes exactly like the first. Turbine only though not the entire front section. Got any suggestions on fans with like 20 blades I think I can wing the nose but I need a really dense turbine fan to pull it off.

Something like this?:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1701168&CatId=0
TigerDirect has a few different combinations of colors/LEDs for these fans, they're just a little on the expensive side for a fan, IMO.

Or, the turbine intake mod worklog at MNCPTech used two regular fans - the same fan suggested by goldenfrog in front with a blue-LED fan behind it. Perhaps you could do the same with a red fan behind it. But then again, you'd have to cut pretty far into your drive cage to fit two fans in that Wizard; it's hard enough getting a hole for one 120mm fan. Here's that effect:
http://www.mnpctech.com/120mm_FanDuct_Computer_Mod9e.html

Oh, and as for the duct, I just used a 4" PVC pipe connector from the plumbing section at Lowe's. I think it was $2.45 after Tennessee's sales tax. Keep in mind that that's for a 120mm fan; I'm not sure what you plan on using.
