I had this old Dell XPS t600r case sitting on my desk and it looked like a perfect modding case.

The case is pastic so it was easy to cut. The dell logo is going to be covered with bondo so you will never see it.

Anyway, pics!

The case has been hacked up already so I had to cut around the hole. I used a jigsaw for the main part, and a dremel for the clean up.

The blue 4 inch CCl's are just for testing, they will be replaced with orange or red CCL's

Next, comes the mesh for the front bezel.

The top panel with design drawn on.

Clean up with dremel.

Finished top, cleaned up with 400 grit sand paper.
NukeULatersPics022.jpg

I had to cut this part out so you could see into the case.
NukeULatersPics023.jpg

Finished cut, cleaned up with dremel. This part will never been seen thats why the lines are not straight. If you ask about the C clamp it's there because the drive bays kept falling out, they will be bolted down later.

I could use some help with the paint color. What color would you use?

Thanks for the compliment khanable, this is only my second mod so it turned out better than expected.

I am set on orange lights, so the paint job has to match them.

***EDIT***
I just finished the custom hard drive rack. I will hopefully have pics of it soon.

The custom hard drive rack is finished.

Sand frosted with 400 grit sand paper.

very simply looking hard drive rack, but hey if it works for you thats just fine. i'm curious, are you gonna paint it in any way, mayby follow that flame theme that you have going on in your case. allso a fan on the front whould be a nice add. i'm gessing a 92mm fan whould be a perfect fit. BTW not big fan of flames ( in general ) but the cutting that you have done is really good,
keep it up man :D

This is looking great. I am actually in process (well for the last year or so) of ripping apart my dragon tower and modding it. I took out the drive cages and planned on doing something just like you did with the plexiglass drive cage. I plan on putting 3 harddrives there; 2 sata 160s and 1 Pata 80.

So here is my question to you. What thickness plexiglass did you use for the drives? I have a piece of 1/8" thick but I have a feeling that will be to flimsy for the three drives and it looks like you have about 1/4" thick there.

Great job man~!!!

Thank's for the compliments.

Gregnash, the drive cage is 1/8 inch lexan, it could hold probally 5 HD's with the same design I used. I am going to make a new drive cage tonight

Solarfall, I am going to paint the case, thought I don't know the color yet. If you have suggestions I would like to here them.

Nuke : Thanks I guess I will swing by Lowe's tonight and grab a couple 8x10 sheets of plexi tonight, they are only like $2 a piece or something.

As for the painting the case I would go with something out of the ordinary. Most everyone does black and red like you have started.

For color, you've stated that you're set on orange lights. As a result the color would need to go well with that, obviously.

Common combinations that come to mind...
Orange/Black
Orange/Purple (not sure why it came to mind though...)
Orange/Green

Less common combinations that might work
Orange/White
Orange/Brown (how many brown cases do you see anyway?)
Orange/Cyan

Personally, I like the idea of a 4-way color combo.
Orange, White, Black, and Cyan. I threw something together to get an idea and I kinda like them together. Thanks to www.colormatch.dk for the suggestion on the Cyan colors and the actual colors and codes. Maybe this will help, althought I don't know how you'd work them with the flames and everything. Good luck, it's looking sharp!

If you are set on using orange as a main color I would do some google research on "color wheels" and "complimentary colors". This will give you and idea of what you will be looking at for colors that go together with orange. Just in case you dont know how to read a color wheel you want to use the color that is directly across from the color you are GOING to be using.

I can't find any orange CCL's, so I'm going to use UV CCL's and orange UV LED fans. The case (I think) will be black.

Take white ones and wrap them in orange saran wrap. Works and usually cheaper

red ccfls are normally orange, instead of red.
just try some of those i guess.
or get orange UV led light bars.

The new hard drive rack, it now holds three drives.

I wanted nice clean cuts so I cut the plexi a different way...
NukeULatersPics047.jpg

Two perfectly fitting pieces.

Drilling the screw holes.

Finished drive rack.
NukeULatersPics054.jpg

NukeULatersPics055.jpg

It's going to mounted in the case like this.
NukeULatersPics058.jpg

I'm going to put a 92mm red LED fan under the drives to keep them cool.
NukeULatersPics061.jpg

Starting to cut the hole for the fan.
NukeULatersPics062.jpg

It's not quite finished yet. I am going to sand frost it.

Okay I cut another window in the side.
NukeULatersPics038.jpg

As you see in this photo the new drive rack is right next to the window. The red LED fan should shine through nice. The window does not have flames on it for a reason, but you'll just have to wait. :p

Yeah, it's turning out pretty cool. I worked on it tonight and took some photos, I will post them tomorrow.

I determind that the floppy drive bay, the dell logo, and the small circle on the side are going to be bondod over. The new drive rack is installed and sand frosted.

Haven't personally used that stuff but heard a lot of good things about it. As I said before I am working on the same case as we speak and I am not going to use the Fusion and see how it turns out. Hopefully it wont fall apart on me.

I started to wet sand the case tonight. It's very smooth now.

I'm going to paint the case gloss orange, with blue lighting.

Sorry for the lack of pics. I've just been wet sanding the case it still not done though. I have to finish the side panels and the front bezel. And I can't get the paint until my parents drive me to the hardware store.

BWA!!! NO CAR???? lol

I remember not having a car and trying to do my computer stuff...it was really not a fun thing to do. Having to wait on my parents to take me places sucked because they never could understand what my facination with these things was. Recently since I have started doing web design, making money doing web design and am now in college majoring in CS they have started to see what I have been doing all these years, but they still don't truely understand anything about why I do what I do.

Public transportation and/or a bike FTW!!!!

LOL but we understand.!

I finished wet sanding the case panels, they are much smoother. Tomorrow is bondo time! (And I will post pics to make all of you happy)

i did something like this with my gateway.

wow doing away with the floppy are ya now! I know that it is almost completely dead technology but just watch, one day you will be done and need a floppy and kick yourself for going over it. I am trying to figure out a way to stealth mine for those rare "OH S$*T I NEED A FLOPPY!" occasions.

Yeah I used floppies all the time (The only way I can move files from my dad's really old PC), but I'm going to purchase one of those 22 in 1 floppy drives. When this mod is finished it's going to be a gaming PC/server for my room. So it will not need a floppy, just a gigabit ethernet line.

I'm thinking about purchasing these parts to finish the mod.

2X 92mm blue LED fans
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2544/fan-45/Quad_Blue_LED_92mm_Fan.html?tl=g36c15s59#blank
Has anyone ever used these fans?

Blue 4 inch CCL's
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/3028/lit-93/Logisys_4_Dual_Cold_Cathode_Kit_-_Blue.html?tl=g6c75s131

Blue LED power switch

LED's for the hard drive activation lights
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/1877/ele-40/5mm_Orange_LED.html
What kind of resistor do I need to power them of the motherboard?

I will post a pic of my idea for the leds.

The orange LEDs are mounted behind the mesh and light up when the hard drives are accessed.

Like in the photo. (Yes, I know my photoshop skills are not that great)
