So i had this idea in my head from a while back that i wanted to mod my current system, because it really is the best case i have ever had and i didn't want to move everything from it...


That being said i wanted something a little different than the standard fare of cutting a window and lighting it up.

Here is a few teasers of the work that i have done so far. Keep in mind this used to be a black lian li.

As can be plainly seen, it is certainly not black anymore.

And the smudge on the second pic is just a refraction of the crappy camera that this was taken on.

When i'm done with the mod i will update this page as necessary and i hope that you will be as stunned as i am astonished by the quality that is custom anodizing.
 
Well, it's a gorgeous job so far. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I'm thinking of anodizing the inside of a PC-V1000B pearl or red... I'm out of sulfuric acid though :/
 
How did you remove the black anodizing? I have a G50 that I am modding and am contemplating having it Anodized red.
 
The original anodizing was removed with a stripping agent, basically a pre-bath for the bright dip bath.

I should have an update on this project by saturday, though i make no promises.
 
Well got the side panel window done and installed the smoked lexan.

I think it came out pretty good, and for those that are wondering the hole is for 2x120's that will be cooling the redone mounting of the harddrives.

I also finished off the front panel with bulgin led's and smoke plexi at the bottom that you can't really see too well in the picture.

Also a little puzzle, how many Bawls do you see in the picture?
 
That side panel went from a sheet of metal to the one cut? You must at least tell me what tools you used if not how you did it :O!
 
No sorry, for the confusion, when i took the first pictures i didn't have all my side panels with me.

The picture that you see with the cut was done for me by a laser cutting place. Really good job, very clean lines.

The 2x120 cut was done with a dremel before i took the panel up to get anodized. I just followed the template for ACryan RadGrillz.
 
Oh ok. Thought that such a quality cut was feasible using a dremel :X Sorry, complete newbie to cutting and I haven't had to guts to ruin my sheets before doing all my homework. Mm on the side, how much does it cost to get that laser cut you mentioned? Just need a basic rectangular "hole" cut out of a solid sheet of metal like you radiator, but since it'll be exposed I need it to be completely clean and smooth.. sorry for hijacking >.<

Well the place that i went through was willing to cut me some slack on the price since it was such a easy and quick cut, but be prepared to pay as much as $50-100 depending on the place's setup fee.

The setup fee doesn't change because they have to pay their workers and they have to setup the CNC laser for every cut regardless of the simpleness. Also do your best to provide a CAD file for them so they know how big and where you want your cut.

I have finished my top panel and have a few pictures of it.

Had to take two pictures because of the reflective nature of the lucite.

And to answer the question nobody has asked, the cut on the right is backed by a black opaque reflective and the left is smoked clear. The reason behind this was that the cut on the right that lines up with the front of the case would have shown nothing but my dvd drive, so it wasn't worth it to me to be able to see just that...
 
Well sort of a big update.

I finished the side panel and the reworking of the harddrive cage.

You probably won't be able to see a whole lot because my camera sucks balls but what can you do.

This is the full side panel done complete with the 2 120's and a radgrill.

Feel free to ask questions or take my idea and run with it for the harddrive mounting on the G70, i feel it looks a lot cleaner (even if my wiring could definitely use some work.
 
Please tell us that you are going to clean up that wiring rat's nest. The case is gorgeous otherwise.
 
Yeah i'm thinking of ways that will severely reduce the wiring mess, but it is difficult with 10 internal drives that aren't running any particular raid array.

I also have something in mind for this...

Well i did some cable management that made it look about 1000x better but it is still difficult to hide 10 harddrives worth of cables.

Well i haven't cleaned my room yet, but i did get some more stuff done on the mod.

Remember that HR03-GT that was a bit mangled? Well i installed some iandh ramsinks on my 8800gts 512mb, and guess what, i had to mangle the HR03-GT some more to get it to fit.

Contrary to popular belief, bent heatpipes still work perfectly fine. The only thing i think that would actually cause a heatpipe to stop working would be if you actually cracked it or punctured it, otherwise they will work as intended.

I don't think i will submit any pictures of it for now since it is a bit horrendous looking, but it does work fine and it has lowered my temps a good 10*C+.

I will have pics later this weekend after i get the other two harddrives installed and my cables a little better managed.
