Yeah I like Plexi...

And even with the stitches in my hand, I just couldn't help myself...

Here is what I have so far... this is an abbreviated version.. you can see the entire worklog on my site (more details etc)

Here is the Victim.. Artec 16x Dvd/cd Rom drive...
dvdfronttop.jpg

And here it is taken apart...

Here is the 18x24 piece of Lucite Plexi being preped for Cutting..
dvdplexicut.jpg

I used a small torch to heat and bend the Plexi to create the Housing of the drive...

Here it is all bent to shape, but still needs trimmed and glued..

And here it is Trimmed and being glued together with Weldbond..

I have a little bit more done, but the pics are still inthe camera right now... will probably update my site and this log tonight...

sure it does, he's modding a cd-rom to full plexi, unless you classify worklogs as full systems only. This is a bit of a full device mod if he goes as far as i want to see him go with it.

that is a pretty cool idea, make sure to put leds/cathodes in there to make it look even more sweet.

if i was doing it i would try to get uv reactive plexi and do a whole clear case with all clear components in it (psu/dvd/fans/drive rails/switches etc.)

I will be updating shortly......... finishing up some more details and will post in about an houror so...

I was thinking of maybe running come ccfl inside the case... maybe, or EL wire...

I have some el wire lying around doing nothing, so... maybe I will use that....

don't forget you can see a more detailed worklog on my site www.dragonsteelmods.com

under the heading 'Clear Dvd/cd mod"

This is all going to be part of a bigger mod........

This will be in there (maybe) and I am getting another HDD to mod clear.. Bigger this time.. and putting that in my case.... I may get two of them to mod... working a deal with a friend who has some hdd's lying around doing nothing...

I will be starting the mod on my Raidmax Scorpio case, as soon as I get a replacement case to use for a temp computer......

crossing fingers for you (hoping that it will still work when reassembled!!)

Its not super delicate like a harddrive mod. But still looks like there could be some problems!

yeah well... I decided to go a little more into it actually... I am going to replace the gears with plexi gears...

OK....UPDATE TIME!!

Working on the dvd rail lately.... Cut with Hole Saw Attachment on drill... finished with file and 'burned' the edges to get clear look.

The glue is drying on the tabs now, I attached the tabs later, as i wanted the hole to be uniform..

Here is pic of making of Tag that hold the thingie in place that holds the cd/dvd
dvdrailtab.jpg

Here are pics of the Drive rail almost complete...
Decided to make the 'thingie' that holds the cd/dvd also plexi, I am trying to mold the plexi around it now actually... ::Burned my fingers::
dvdrailpieces.jpg

dvdrailpieces1.jpg

And here is the Front Bezel, almost complete... filed it all down nice and smooth and burned the edges to clear.. need to cut the holes for button etc yet...

dvdbezelalmost.jpg

OK.. now time to start the cd/dvd tray.. This will not be fun.. going to do it in stages though..

Here is the first piece all finished!!

dvdtray.jpg

dvdtray1.jpg

Well that is it for today, I get my stitches out tomorrow.............

fantastic attention to detail. Please take this mod where I know its going!

p.s. might take a file to that rough edge though

"MINE... MINE!!!" :p ;) :D

^^ What's that all about?

Looks good so far, I'm gonna subscribe so I can watch it progress. This looks like it could be good...

I did take the file to it actually....

that was a before file shot, wanted to get the update in... don't like to make updates TOO big y'know...

so is it your precious?

looks like its gonna be fun. too bad they don't make clear motors. you should try and do a case that is as clear as possible... windowed HDD, clear CD/DVD, clear fans, clear PSU, etc... it'd be fun.

of course you could also take it outside and put birdseed in it, and watch birds fly into it:p

I will be doing quite a bit of etching....

and as for leds.. I don't think so... I have a bunch of EL wire, I have blue and purple about 10 feet of it, I may do something with that... I haven't quite decided.. and the activity LED will be very visible and bright now with clear bezel

This is definitly crazy but I like it. I love the detailes so far. Keep up the good work.

Maby you could have it lit up blue and then insted of an activity LED use the purple EL wire

I deleted the pic of stitches because people complained......................................

maby you should give a warrning befor you have pics like that coz i was eating hen i saw it

In one of those pics, it looks like the cdrom cover (made in acrylic) is sagging in the centers. It's probably from the heat in the corners so next time use a heatspreader attachment on whatever you used (blowtorch or heatgun).

lol it didn't need deletion.. i'm sure all us sick freaks would like to see it at the right time... just need to be prepared ;)

oO thats so hott man good job..

Can you give a link to the pic of the "stiches" please! I wan't to see..

UPDATE TIME...............

OK... Bottom part of cd tray now bascially complete.. a little details to work through

dvdtratbottom.jpg

dvdtraybottom1.jpg

And I have been working on the case.... needs more details done, need to work on with the file...

dvdcasealmost.jpg

dvdcasealmost1.jpg

And now I have been working on the 'grommet' that holds the cd in place while spinning.

I still have not figured out what exactly it is called.....

Here is before cutting..
dvdthingiework1.jpg

Here is my makeshift mini-ginder.. works very well....
dvdgrinder.jpg

And here is the 'thingie' being glued together...

it is in three parts.. the two parts being glued together are going to be beveled together....
dvdthingie1.jpg

Weldbond is the adhesive I am using, it dries crystal clear.. will see some lines, but it will have a water effect...

looks very nice so far.

btw, (just noticed this) there're no images in sigs here, so... you might want to fix that;)

HUH?? I don't have a sig?? Do I??

now i'm really confused... I don't see a sig under my posts....

but in you link, there is a 'link' under my posts... ?!?!?!?!?!?!

yeah... I'm really confused now...

you probably have sigs turned off... if you don't see mine, then you have them turned off. just go to your usercp and change it.

anyways, back on topic. (still) looks really cool.

Yeah they were off.....

I don't know what that was in mine....

But there is MY sig!
