So I've dabbled in Case modding, nothing too strenuous, but I'm looking to move on and makie my skills a little better. My buddy asked me if I could mod his case before he builds his system and I said "Why not?"

So he gives me this HUGE case. Damn thing is like 3.5' tall! As soon as I see it thought, my mind starts reeling... This thing has mad potential.... too bad I'm such a noob. Basically, I'm thinking of all the ideas I have... and crossing out most of them because they're out of my league.
The case originally housed an AMD T-Bird setup, AC, a few 80mm, 92mm, and 100mm fans.

So lets start with what the case is being built for:
Watercooled Low noise AMD 64 system. As you can see it obviously has room for a WC setup... Damn thing has enough room for like 3 computers!!

So basically, my boy just wants it too look sleek, nice flowing lines. He also wants to be able to see all his components and have them be UV reactive. I think I can manage that...

Anyways, here are some pics of the case:

As you can see, there is quite a bit of surface rust, as well as the fact that the previous owner of the case was a piss-poor spraypainter. I can definitely sand off the rust, But I'm not the best spraypainter myself, but my boy is ready to spring for an automotive grade spraypaint... we're thinking Porsch Black Metallic.

Work done today... pretty much just planning the project, outlining what I want to do, Cut one hole, Needs some touch up, and I'm gonna make the lower corners 90 degree angles rather than the rounded edges they are now.

More to come probably saturday...

i have the same case somewhere here. i think mie has just about as much dust on the outside as yours does on the inside

YAY! YAY FOR SUPERMICRO CASES!!! I used to have one until I traded it to Vapor1000 for my PC-65 and now he won't sell it back to me!!! Best case I ever owned!!!

alright, so a little late night brainstorming created an idea for the front of the case. my boy and i both agreed that the little holes in the front of the case looked like crap, and to add to that, it was obvious that they created air flow restrictions for the fans meant to be housed behind them. So two ideas came to mind...
First off, here are the holes:
From the front:

From the back:

You can see that there is a wall raised up on the rear photo. I didn't know what to do about that, but i ended up simply cutting them off. This will give me some extra room to mount some thick lexan.

So my idea simply cutting out the hoels came to mind first. I didn't know exactly what shape I wanted, but then another idea came to mind. I decided to make the case two toned, with a black stripe up the front of the case between those two grooves, and the rest of the case being a DARK charcoal blue. The stripe will stop at the top of the highest 5.25" bay.
Then I decided that the shape of the whole should be rectangular, and I'll be shaving the power and reset buttons, the case badge square, and the LED holes. This, I hope will provide a much sleeker look for the case as a whole.
I'll also be making "floating buttons" We'll be buying Bulgin Illuminated Vandal Switches. One will be with the blue ring, the other with the red dot. The blue will be the power button, with the LED hooked to the mobo for the power LED, and the red will be the reset button, with the LED for HDD activity. They'll be floating in that they'll be mounted directly onto the plexi in front, with the wires routed straight back so that you can't seem them.

Anyways, heres the only bit of work I had time to do today... but I'll probably be working more later.

And here are the things to be shaved:

Got that case too.
;)
Windows on both sides.

Damn, I forgot how freaking huge those SuperMicro tower cases are. I remember seeing a bunch of them during Virtual Hideouts popular days....

I'm trying to get 2 things done at the moment,

1) get Vapor1000 to post pics of the SuperMicro tower that's identical to that one, that he's currently modding

and 2) get Vapor1000 to friggin' sell me my beloved case back! :(

ROTFLOL!!!! funny i should just randomly stumble upon this thread...

#1 all in due time lol (would go quicker if u didnt put 12 damn coats of paint on it)

#2. you know the very unlikely thing you have to do to get the case back..... (especially now that ive started working on it)
