This is a mod I have been planning for some time, but just havent had the time. This is my first case mod project, but I have put alot of thought and planning into it. Im using a Compaq Persario 4050US case as a base for my project, and Im modding it from there. Im going with a boiler theme for the project, so naturally I want to include alot of metal and other steampunk-ish things into the case. I have yet to start the actual project, but I have all the plans and supplies layed out. I will post further exploits as they happened, so check back and see how its going, and check out the pics that go with it.

Started cutting last night. Put an air pressure gauge and power switch in the front panel, as well as cut out the metal behind it so everything would fit. I still need to cut the I/O panel out, but the metal is really thick, so I think im going to use an industrial grinder. That and I have my first offical battle scar! Cut my thumb with the dremel last night.

My next step is to put the USB ports in the front, which I started last night. After that Im going to get the rest of the cutouts done. Then ifs off to paint. Cant do it right now though, 'cause the temp dropped into the teens yesterday, so I think I'll just practice with the airbrush. That and its off to the junkyard to find a cover for the gauge..(there seems to be a gap between the edge of the gauge and the case and my dremel work was terrible). I'll be adding the photos in a bit, so keep checking.

just curious, where did you get your screenname from? (it's not from the new 3eb song?)

Im going to try and get the USB ports mounted tonight, but the cutouts have to be postponed until tomorrow. Its just to cold, and i dont want to take the chance of warping the metal. I'll post pics of the cutouts and the new and improved front panel soon, for all those who read this...

Got the front USB mounted, side cut out and 80mm fan mount all done yesterday. It is now painted with the primer and ready for the next coat. I decided to use rivets to hold the side window on. I am also getting the inards together, and Im almost done with that. I still need to mount the processor fan. Im going to have to make a bracket for the one Im using, as the old one was just to big...

I am pleased to announce that the mod is completed!! After a week of work and a few fired LEDs, It is up and running. Ill post the pics of it soon.

I installed the mobo, cpu, ram, psu and hard drive yesterday. I had to make a bracket for the psu, mostly because it was to big to fit in the standard mount. But its all together and the OS is installed.

heres the specs:

2.66GHz Pentium 4 CPU
512mb DDR 400mhz ram
300w Allied PSU
dell motherboard (salvage job, dont know the name of the board)
64mb onboard graphics.
8gb main drive with an 80gb slave.
Im using it as a server/old gaming rig.

And now presenting the final pics:
(I know their a bit rough, forgive me!!)

Can't wait to see how it turned out, as that is a very interesting shaped case. Would love to see what you've done to it.
