Updated 4/5/08: Stable at 3.03GHz on the stock Intel Cooler , see below (or my post at the "official" MSI P7N Diamond thread)

Also, I want to say it again: thanks silent-circuit. I wouldn't have been nearly as happy as I am with this set-up if I didn't have all of your help picking my components (Danny Bui and coolxboxgamer too).

Next update should have pictures of my watercooling gear (hopefully a successful leak test). After that, I'm going to try to push the Q6600 to 3.8GHz+ with a NB waterblock.

I’m taking my first stab at watercooling and modding so this should be fairly interesting. I just ordered all of my components and I’m looking forward to updating this post with some pictures mid-week. I'm not in love with the name Blue Diamond but I'm going for a silver/Blue color scheme and the board is a P7N Diamond (yes I know that I could have went with the ASUS board with those colors) so what the hell. I would prefer to call it [H]ard Diamond but I'm afraid of being sued/banned (more on that below)... ;)

The Parts:

Case: Lian-Li V2000 Plus II – Silver
CPU: Q6600 – unknown stepping but I assume that it’s G0 because I just ordered it
CPU Cooling: D-Tek Fuzion block with quad nozzle “kit” and “quick release” mount
Motherboard: MSI P7N Diamond (780i chipset, non-reference design) *crossed fingers* that this thing works
Chipset Cooling: Stock HSF to start and then waterblocks as they become available
Video Cards: EVGA Geforce 8800 GTX in SLI
Video Card Cooling: EK full coverage
RAM: 2x OCZ Platinum Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000 model: OCZ2P10004GK)
RAM Cooling: Stock to start, may add the OCZ fan if necessary
Storage: 2x Western Digital 640GB 2-platter drives in RAID-0, 1x Western Digital 640GB for storage, 2x WD 640GBs in IcyDock eSATA enclosures for back-up (via Norton Ghost) and file transfers
Sound: Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1
Fans: 9x Noctua NF-P12 120mm fans
Radiators: 2x Swiftech MCR320s
Pumps: 2x Swifech MCP655s (Liang D5 Varios)
Reservoirs: 2x Swiftech MCRES-MICROs
Tubing: 7/16" Masterkleer over 1/2” Barbs
Flow/Temp Monitoring: 2x ThermalTake Flow TX Plus 3/8” connectors so I need to buy some 1/2” to 3/8” adaptors

The Plan:

I’m going to get the computer up and running on air cooling and then transition the CPU over to a single loop and the GPUs to a second loop. I’m going to stash the two 120.3s in the bottom compartment of the V2000 and mod the case so that they vent out of the left side (as you look at the case). A friend of mine has access to a CNC machine so I might try to do something cool with that side of the case – I’m open to ideas. The pumps and Micro Reservoirs are going to go in the bottom with the radiators. I’ll sketch out the general WC design and scan/upload it to get feedback. I have some other ideas but I think that I’ll be able to visualize them better when I see the items in person…

One question: I noticed that the [H] logo decal on FrozenCPU has a lot of Trademark legalese; what are the rules for using the logo? If I got a small version CNC’d into the radiator opening or right next to it how do I pre-clear that? I’m thinking the stylized, “web 2.0” version '[H]' with a diamond next to it and some blue LED backlighting.

The Pictures:

Stay Tuned… I need to find the battery charger for my Panasonic FZ20

Ordered Sunday night from NewEgg and 90% will be delivered today - I love those guys...

Very nice thus far. Glad to see it's going smooth.

It's the solid components :p

I'm reassessing my goals and I would love to put the P7N board/780i chipset on the top of this list. It looks like I have a great chip (one of the lowest reported VIDs); do you think it's possible? I see a 680i @ 4GHz so i know it's not just the Intel chipsets that can get these quads revving...

Possible, but I wouldn't go so far as to say likely. VID is only one of several indicators, and the biggest indicator... isn't. Luck is a huge part when it comes to good OCing chips vs. bad or mediocre OCing chips. I'll be hoping for you though.
