Thanks. No corrosion inhibitor needed. I'll be using one of the non-conductive fliuids.
 
From an amateur machinist to a professional... you're fu*&%ng nuts for doing all of this machining on this case, and I've only read about 5 pages!
 
This is my favorite project on [H]. I can't wait until the next update, but I will. Keep up the awesome work!

Sorry to keep you all waiting, but life intrudes. Fear not, for I have been very busy cranking on the 'Beast'.

This is a two part post, with the first being what I have done, and the second concerning my new PSU!

On with the post!

Well, I finally finished the fins for the 'Doorrad'

The other side was turned and the two additional holes were added and all three opened to .2535"

I only needed about 213 fins, but I made 240 just in case. Here they all are. 30 fins per tray and eight trays. Just an FYI, I started working on this project in late May of last year. This was a lot of work! The only thing left is to finish the rounds for the 'Doorrad'

Here is a little snippet of how this thing is going to look (and work). Here is one fin with the two outer aluminum tubes installed

Here is all the fins for this particular section installed. The ends of the tubes will protrude into the rounds 1/4 of an inch

When I get the rounds done, I'll do a complete mock-up to see that everything fits.

The fins will be anodized red with the inner aluminum tubes in black. I'm still undecided about what color the rounds will be (red or black).

I got my new PSU. The bad-ass mofo herself. I found an open box at Fry's Electronics! Imagine my good fortune

Here is the tag on the box, you can clearly see the item is the 1KW-SR (single rail)

But this PSU is clearly not the SR version. Bummer. Time to take her back. I can understand the mix-up. PCP&C is now only selling the SR version, and when this was returned and then re-labled at Fry's, that's when the mix-up occured, A bad timing thing

So I phoned the Fry's closest to me (I purchased this unit at another Fry's near my work), and the told me they had none in stock, bummer again. But I took the unit back cause I really wanted the SR version.

So off to Fry's I went, I got my refund, and on a whim, went back to the mobo section of the store (this is also where the PSU's are). I asked the sales guy if they had anymore of the SR versions. There just happens to be another clerk there and he say they have one, but it has been opend in the store, but never used. I ask if it's for sale and they say sure!

This PSU is also very heavy. 9 pounds give or take!

As soon as I get the 'Doorrad' rounds complete, I'll have the mock-up post for you all.

I'm also working on my custom reservior. I'll have a post on that very soon.

If I feel inclined, I might do the cutout for the PSU on the PSU shroud.

As always, when I get things done, you all are the first to know.

Well, I am a machinist and I have to say, machining this stuff is easy with modern CNC machines, but dreaming up the ideas and importing them from autocad or mastercam like Stevennoland does (I assume that is what you are doing on a HAAS vertical machining center or something similar).......that a whole 'nother story, you are truly talented dude.

I find it hard to believe you could make a 240 perfect part run on a Bridgeport, but it is possible. :)

From a pure performance standpoint wouldnt it be better if the fins were spread a bit further apart even though it looks quite a bit nicer when their closer together?

Components? Uh, your guess is as sood as mine. If I had the money when I started this thing and bought my compenets then, I would have been really sorry I had.

So much has changed since this project was put into motion. Can you say 6800 for the video? AMD was king of the hill? LOL;)

The vids, mobo, cpu, mem, and drives will all come last. I want this thing to be as future proof as possible (well at least a couple weeks).

I was even a little hesitant to buy the PSU, but I figure it should be enough.

As far as the spacing, I'm not to concerned about how well this 'Doorrad' is going to cool. I'm in it for the looks now.

My biggest concern now is: Is it going to leak, and how can I assemble it without scratching the aluminum tubing?

ETA? I originally was thinking X-Mas of 2006. That date is gone! I'm hoping for X-Mas of 2007.

The money for the CPU, GPU's, mobo, mem, and drives isn't here yet. I'm figuring 3-4 grand for that. Anyone care to donate? I'll make sure you are properly acknoledged here in the forums and when this thing goes on tour.

the thing about that 2kw psu is that it only has one 12v rail so thats prolly gonna be a bummer, i mean one 12v rail running at 78 amps, i remember reading somewhere that thats actually out of spec, not sure why they did that (think they did it to keep the price low by saving on parts)

those 2kw units has more than one rail (i believe the ocz has 6 rails or something to that effect) and pushes over 150amps on some... also you deal with overloading your home circuit... well'd you'd kill a 15 amp standard household outlet... you'd need to use two circuits.

Yes, 230v devices are more efficient than 115v devices. And 477v devices are more efficient than 230v but that being a three phase industrial power source has a lot to do with that.

230V means you have more power for the same wiring. Most US homes already have at least some 230V circuitry for things like your electric stove, electric dryer, and air conditioning.

Besides, getting shocked by 230/240V is only a little worse than 120V. (been there, done that)

From my experience, 230v shocks are less painful than the 110v ones. Plus 110v grabs a hold of you and 230v throws you, so eh.
 
You guys took a kick ass thread and turned it into a total mess. Who wants to scroll through 100 pages of absolute garbage nonsense to see some pics of the reason we are viewing this thread in the first place. You guys are probably the same people who quote photos in all the other threads that are almost not viewable because you use other peoples threads as a freaking IM client like a bunch of teenage girls.
