Well there is not much to say here, I have posted some pics of this project in other parts of the forum, but alas I will start the much promised worklog. The window cut out will be the main feature, but I plan on doing a top notch wiring job to make the entire case look great. I haven't figured out if I want to mount the HDD's side ways or backwards to hide the wiring a little more.
Any and all tips, suggestions, complaints and money is / are welcome....

One with the show.
Here is the original pic of the soon to be cutout.

And here is the same pic changed into a stencil (note: I did not make this change, I got the stencil off a website, I will link that as soon as I find it again.)
9311-15.jpg

Here is what I hope the final project will look like. To keep it as similar to this as possible I will put "frosted" glass in the case, now the question is should I use glass or plexi.

I'd say get the orginal laser etched, thats a nice pic.

But wheres the fun in that...

So here is the soon to be cutout printout, looks good but I will need to make more definitive lines.
9311-2.jpg

Heres a close-up of that same outline, you can see what I mean about needing to smooth out the lines for cutting (also you can see that I cant line shit up correctly)
9311-3.jpg

And this one needs some imagination, thats the actual sidepanel, just mocked it up a little.
9311-4.jpg

So here is the revamped outline. Not much else to say about it, basically posting it to show others how they may want to get a outline ready for cutting.
9311-7.jpg

Cutout and ready to mark on the case, I did it this way (rather than just tape it on the side) so I could cut through the least amount of stuff to make it clean, stuff = case, tape, paper)
9311-6.jpg

I feel about as comfortable cutting my Lian-Li as I do lighting my farts in a gasoline factory, that said I had to throw the tape on.
9311-8.jpg

So here is the markings for cutting, everything that is blue is soon to be gone.
9311-11.jpg

I figure this cut is going to be alot of fun.
9311-12.jpg

And away we go.
9311-13.jpg

Not much has happened so here are a few pics of what has...

First the cut out got more... well... cut out
9311-5.jpg

I am just getting about 1 - 2 mm to the acutal edge I want, using a variety of bits, I will go back and file them with hand files to make them perfect (after I go at it with the Dremel grinding bits)
Here you see what I mean.
9311-10.jpg

I will update this in a few days, and for those who are about to ask...

AMD A64 3200+
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
Western Digital 80gig Sata (will eventually be 2)
NEC 16x DVD burner
6800GT (haven't decided on manufacturer., but probably BFG)
Antec True 430
Corsair XMS PC3200
Logitech MX Duo
Samsung 19" CRT
Possibley the 4" LCD mod (in 3.5" bay)
And other stuff I forgot to mention (sorry I'm hungry, cant think when I'm hungry)

That link where I got the stencil from is Right Here Its a great site for finding stencils or just admiring peoples work. There is also a tutorial on there, showing you how to make a photo into a stencil, pretty good, but its based on Photoshop so if you have Paint Shop Pro (like I do) your not going to be able to make it as easy.

Again I highly recommend that site, go there look around and pic yourself out a cut out, or atleast get an idea.

This is gonna be great! I dont know where that pic is from, or the movie, but it looks soo... cool. Kinda james dean looking or whatever.

Rock on man ;)

and this is going in my sig 4 sure (since no one has offered to buy it)

OMG, how can you not have scene boondock saints! You must go watch it today, great movie.

great pic, and good job on the cut out so far. I am curious as to how the rest of the case will look. (mabey have 6 guys with guns inside of it)

JEEVES

hell yeah boondock saints all the way man... great movie, and nice cutting too

I have to say I envy your cutting skills. And your Lian Li. But mostly your cutting skillz :p

I have an email from Troy Duffy the director and creator..hehe we chat a bit every now and then.
I gave him an idea about a sequel..and he actually liked it..

boondock saints

great movie

good idea for the case but you might want to change the font and definitly the size of the text in the corner

Oh man this is coming along nicely. Gotta have a gun and cross added to the case somehow.

Boondock Saints is the best movie of it's type ever.

Okay so here is a wee update....

As you can see I did a bit more cutting.
9311-20.jpg

But still need to get in there and file the sharp edges down in some spots, example.
9311-21.jpg

So what is this thing going to look like on the side of the case? Well here you go.
9311-17.jpg

I have another shot of that last one and thought I would post it for more angles.
9311-18.jpg

And if your cables look like shit, they may as well be attacking the rest of your mod.
9311-16.jpg

Dont worry I got 2 cable sleeving kits on the way (Fed Ex says 2 more days) So I will get that mess under control before I even boot up.

And finally, no worklog is complete without a out-of-focus pic, so here you go.
9311-19.jpg

What does the Lion fan grill have to do with this mod?
Nothing, I just like it and it was on the cheap.
Why is the grill mounted upside down?
Because I am goddamn idiot, but a few minutes unscrewing / rescrewing will fix that. I also need to get some washers or spacers because the grill makes the "PSU holder plate" bend, so I need to fix that.

Whats to come? Well I heard from a good source that there may be some stained glass going in this bad boy, just need to figure out how to do it tastefully. I think the cross with the circle in it (I'll get a pic) can either be made out of stained glass, or can be a cover for the resivoir (water cooling) with the circle the actual resivoir. But that would be down the road. A few guns could make it into the stained glass, because nothing says "tastefull" like blue steel.
I'll throw some sketches together so we all know whats what.

Okay so here is the cross from the movie. If anyone wants it (for whatever reason) they sell it on the films website.

9311-cross.jpg

I figure if I got some wood or anything really, made that shape (well half of it) and had the circle be a cylidrical resivoir inside the three 3.5" drives spot it would look great. Or even just make a resivoir behind it and make the circle a window into it. But that would be down the road, I gotta get this thing built first!

Thank you for that link to the Stencil Revolution site! I've been thinking of starting my first major case mod but I needed a way to turn some pictures into stencils. Many thanks!
